Default Caliper Cover debacle - any ideas?

Hey Guys,

So I grabbed my second Z after a couple year hiatus. I had forgotten how fun it is to drive. I love the car, minus one small infraction (I'm sure you all can see my problem).

I bought the car Friday with the Calipers already installed from the previous owner. Not to be a baby, but I have no desire right now to remove the wheels with my stock jack (I don't have a jack anymore, just ramps), just to remove the covers. Do they make a less fake looking kit to cover this one up, hahahaha.

Any suggestions to disguise them without removing the wheels? The only thing I could think of is either Plasti Dip, or vinyl wrap. I feel like both are possible without removing the wheels. Plus I would have to fill in the lettering. What would be an easy way to fill that in if I wrap them?

I have to assume someone has been in my shoes.

I’d say you're allowed 90 days to keep them on before we give you a proper flame fest. Do yourself a favor and wait till you get a jack. Someone on the forum maybe close to you and could help?

Looking at an install guide online it would seem you may be able to reach the retaining clip and nut through the wheel openings. Although I don't know if every cover uses the same fastening mechanism.

hahahaha, that's a pretty generous grace period. I figured I'd get mostly buy a jack and stands responses.

The jack that comes with the Z isn't awful and will "get r done!"

It wouldn't worry about the caliper covers. The rear spoiler provides a nice distraction.

Don't be a wanker. The wing is the only saving grace on the car.

Are you taking a shot at my car? Easy buddy, I just bought it. Either way, having a cool car doesn't take away from being a tool if you happen to be one. I didn't ask for opinions on my car, I just asked about the caliper covers. If you don't have anything helpful, shut your pie hole. That goes for you too wanker

I just said that i like the wing. Chill. You must have confused me for someone on a civic forum. We don't normally knock other peoples cars here.I thought wanker was knocking the spoiler, so I tried defending the spoiler, but now that I read his post again, I think he was complementing it.

Yikes! I did not know that they made those for Z-cars. I thought when I left the Corvette forum, I would not see those things again. Yeah, you need to remove them ASAP! I don't see why you don't want to remove the wheels. You'll be absolutely fine using the car jack. Works OK, just takes a little more time. But in the end, it will be worth it. It would've been the first thing I did as soon as I got her home.

I'm not going to make a big thing about this, but when you say, "the wing is the only saving grace on the car," you are purposefully being insulting. Look up the phrase my friend. It basically construes the car is unattractive minus the spoiler. Here you go, I did the legwork for you. Verbatim from the dictionary: "Saving Grace"

"A redeeming quality, especially one that compensates for one's shortcomings."

"A quality that makes up for other generally negative characteristics; redeeming feature."

Example: Think if someone mentioned your significant other and said, "man, her butt is huge." Then I came in to defend her and said, "yeah, but her butt is her only saving grace." That would surely connotate she has no other redeemable aesthetic qualities minus her huge butt. Would you thank me for compliments towards her?

Another quick example would be yourself perhaps. One could mention you are a huge tool for trolling posts and sneaking in off the topic insults rather than helping. Perhaps wanker could then come to your rescue and say, "wait, he does have a cool car, that's his only saving grace." Basically meaning you are a tool minus having a cool car (if you didn't pick up on that). And really you didn't design the car, or build it, or have any hand in creating it, so you're basically a tool that picked a cool car.

If you're going to be a hater, may as well stand by it. If not admit fault, and apologize, or lastly find another post to troll. I believe wanker was being sarcastic and knocking the wing. How about you post up some photos of your car so we can all chime in our opinions. I doubt every car you've ever bought rolled off the lot looking sweet.

Thanks everyone else for the help. It's not that I'm terrified of taking the wheels off, I just bought the car and don't feel like taking it apart right away with a lesser jack and no stands. I was just curious if anyone had ideas. I owned a Z prior for 4 years and did plenty of work on it. I'll be getting some rear tires soon, so I'll just wait until then. I'm already aware the covers are frowned upon, that's why I started this post.

Find a local forum member that has a garage and tools you can use. I'm always happy to let a fellow Z owner wrench on their car at my place. I usually charge a 6-pack of some hoppy IPA if they need my help.

You've got good taste in beer. I'll be good for a couple of weeks until I get tires. Nobody at my work knows about cars, so they have no idea. That's the only place my car is really seen. You would think they could make a better fake than that though. I'm the only one that knows I'm living a lie, hahahaha.
