Vinyl/Plastic Gouge :( Need Help Repairing!?

I have a 2009 370z Nismo and was moving a small piece of furniture. When I got home it was dark and didn't see this damage until the next morning.

Its on the passenger side above the glove box. The damage is about 1/2 the size of a dime. Any idea on how I can fix this without replacing the whole dash? Should I ask this in detailing/washing/cosmetic repair instead?

For minor scuffs, I just rub in some black shoe polish..... But that looks a little more serious.

I know! I was so bummed when I saw it

its right in the middle, in the most visible spot too.

Do you know if this is plastic or vinyl or what exactly the material is?

Im trying to find the piece that was torn away so I might be able to glue it back in then use shoe polish/marker/paint.

Looks like you took away some of the material. You could try like SteveBad mentioned or maybe a black sharpie for a temp solution, just for the hole though. You could maybe make a small lip on the inside of the hole, behind the current material and get some of the dash material from a donor car and put it in with some 3M spray adhesive. That wont do anything for the scuffs though. You could maybe find some type of Z or Nissan cloth patch and affix it on top as well. Good luck!

That sucks, you might want to also look into a vinyl/leather repair kit.

Thanks for the tips guys! Yea I think finding replacement material to fill the hole, then using shoe polish etc is my best bet. Anyone know exactly what kind of material this is?

P.S. Sucks its in such a noticeable spot, thats the worst part!

Even if I attempted a repair my eyes would be drawn to it every time I got in the car.

I am sorry but the solution for me would be to replace the damaged dashboard even if the replacement was a good condition one from a donor vehicle rather than new from Nissan.

Go see a pro auto upholstery repair person or high end detailer... I have no idea if that is fixable or not, but sometimes those guys can work magic.

I know I have been able to use heat to carefully wipe out scratches to where they blend and I'm very OCD on stuff like this. A gouge is another thing entirely and the pic makes it hard to tell how deep it is. My concern with heat method on 370 dash would be all of the complaints about dashes turning sticky over time. I don't know if this would excellerate that condition. I do know I had a scratch in my center console on the 370 that I was able to remove with heat completely to where others don't believe it was scratched. If you planning to replace dash I may be worth a try before spending that much time/money. If you do start low and work your way up on heat setting to avoid making situation worse.
