Rear fog wiring

Did anyone recently install rear fog lights on their new Z. Like 15,16,17 models. Just trying to find out if wiring is different

The US version Zs don't have wiring for the rear fog lamp as it's just a reflector. However, if you look down there, you'll see a socket that actually isn't connected to anything. You'll have to tap into a hot wire that already exists on your car. I suggest either the left or right tail light. Don't forget to ground the negative

What I did is to buy a socket and bulb that fit (with some trimming) into the existing foglite housing. I then ran a hot wire from the LEFT-HAND license plate light (that one is the easier of the two) and connected it up to one terminal of the new socket. Then, I ran a ground wire from the other terminal on the new socket , thru the entire car, then to one terminal of a switch , and grounded the other terminal of the same switch. I mounted the switch (fits perfectly) in the middle of the three blanks on the console.

In operation, when you flip the switch, it completes the ground, and the lite comes on. It only has power when the lights are on.

I connected my hot wire to the drivers side tail light. Obviously this is more work, and you can connect to to the passenger if you'd rather (no real difference). The foglight comes on with the Parking Lights and Headlights, and brightens on braking.

I got a flashing bulb from Super Bright Leds that flashes 3 times then goes solid when on brake.

Be Warned: If using a traditional incandescent bulb, DO NOT connect to the tail lights. The tail lights are low current LED's, and the incandescent is higher current, so it will actually dim/flicker the tail lights when it lights up.
