Automatic shift knob

yeah yeah, I got an auto,..
But I was wondering if there is a replacement or nicer shifter for the auto anywhere?

Problem is finding one that will shift into gears where the oem release button is..

FuszNissan 10-21-2009 08:05 PM

I have never seen one, but doesn't mean there isn't one out there. Sorry I am no help. Good luck!

abakja1 10-22-2009 05:00 PM

Adding one that has leather, Carbon Fiber, or fully Delrin (best choice for me). would be nice.

The oem "plasticky" feel isnt doing it for me...

1slow370 02-26-2010 02:12 AM

you know delrin is a plastic right?

Delrin has a totally different feel and look to it and its black...
It wont get hot in the sun and feels "silky" to the touch.

Had one in my Suby before I sold it.

the most common knob ive seen on auto 350z's is this one from momo:

MOMO Automatic Shifter Knob, Automatic Gear Shift Knob

http://i47.tinypic.com/2klnqu.jpg

im just not sure if it will fit the auto 370z's

fairladyZ34 02-28-2010 08:52 AM

i would just like if the auto shift knob is shorter like the ones on newer BMWS

SophiaZ 02-28-2010 10:24 AM

Made for a Mazda but I wonder how the fitment would be. This looks pretty sharp

flashburn 02-28-2010 11:48 AM

Except for the fact that the top of it says "RX-8". :icon17:

SophiaZ 02-28-2010 03:43 PM

I already stated it was Mazda's but to get rid of the RX-8 can't be hard...little spray paint or tint overlay would do fine I'm sure

I just saw a setup similar to this one with the shifter and boot on an auto 350Z yesterday and I thought it looked pretty nice. It's by MOMO. The only difference was the boot was black and the shifter was a straight cylinder. What do you guys think?

1slow370 03-09-2010 04:26 AM

the delrin we have at work must be industrial grade then it's white, self-lubricating tough as hell, hard to turn a finish on, and makes better bushings than it does high quality interior pieces, either way alcantra would plow plastic out of the water for feel/finish, why not get it recovered?

y0willy0 05-11-2010 08:29 PM

will that momo knob work on a 370 since its button is on the front side?

marcussoori 11-07-2010 12:51 PM

Let me know if you find a knob that works.

I agree with the previous poster who said he wants the shifter post to be shorter...anyone know how this can be done? It would be cool if the height could be the same as on the GT-R.

On that note, anyone think the GT-R knob would work? Also, perhaps the GT-R shifter post is interchangeable with ours?

Just a thought...

Yes, Imtired on here has one fitted already. Apparently the mechnics of the 370z button are actually on the top of the shaft, so the Momo works.

Here's a link to the thread, as I was interested to see how the standard knob comes off.

I think this look good. It's the momo shift knob with a boot.

Don't mean to change the topic of this thread, but has anyone changed their hand brake.

docaam 11-08-2010 12:27 AM

simota changed his brake handle though he has a manual

dudesky 06-25-2011 11:03 PM

hey guys I have a question. If our 370z's shift button presses down to work, can't we just put any MoMo's shift knob that has no button because then that button will be always pressed and we will be just changing P to D without pressing the button. ??? can this work???

Imtired 06-26-2011 07:18 AM

If the button is pushed down all the time you will get a warning on the gas gauge cluster. It will want you to put it into park to start the car even though it's already in park. This happened to me when I put my knob on a bit to low on the shaft.
I don't remember exactly but I don't think I was able to start the car without loosening and raising the knob.

It would be great if the metal collar on the momo knob was flush with the bottom of the shift gate, but I have no idea how far the button mechanism extends into the shaft of the shifter.

Someone much braver than I should hack one up.

happytheman 06-26-2011 08:23 PM

Dunno, but there's a possibility that the GTR knob will work.

Csquared 06-26-2011 08:35 PM

I do want to know if the GTR one works. It looks nice.

happytheman 06-26-2011 08:38 PM

Oh yah, I mean..how hot is this:
http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...om/gtrpush.png
I'm just amazed that I haven't read of anyone doing it yet!

truman_greg 06-26-2011 09:14 PM

I will be purchasing the gtr shift knob in the next few weeks in order to try to make it work instead of the oem 370z shift knob. Modification will be necessary in order to make the gtr knob sit low, assuming the diameters of the 2 shafts are the same.

I tried the momo shift knob already, in my opinion, it does not look good; and momo hasn't changed their automatic offering for many years now. I think my main focus will be finding an knob that can sit low, like the R8 or gtr.

KaienZ34 06-26-2011 11:24 PM

Sounds good that's what I want also. A low sitting GT-R shift knob.

Jamaica 06-26-2011 11:40 PM

This should come out good.

js1 06-27-2011 02:44 PM

i would like to see this also. what modifications do you think would have to be done? any cutting?

js1 07-02-2011 01:31 PM

Has anyone tried the gtr shift knob yet?

truman_greg 07-02-2011 08:33 PM

Based on a YouTube video I saw, it should work. There will be modifications necessary to make the gtr knob sit low. I have not had the proper time yet to do this project. I hope to soon.

I hope it does, whenever you get the chance to do it please put up a DIY with pics and whatnot.
