Check the first page, there is plenty to do.
~After market performance upgrades are many times lighter
~Battery, remove plastic cr*p, etc.
~Interior parts can be removed or replaced.
~Carbon fiber

Yeah, that stuff has been done, but to balance the car to 50/50 with the Z's actual weight distribution at around 55/45 or 54/46, you would need to move around 160 pounds and around 155 pounds if you really lighten in to around 3100 pounds. I wish nissan could have made the Z's transmission rest in the back like the GTR's. That would have helped.

This is a question that I don't think everybody thinks about, but does anyone have any info on the weight of aftermarket limited slip differentials (i.e. The OS Giken LSD that I want that has 28 plates, Quaife, Carbonetic etc)....?? The Z's differential is mounted on its rear axle, so it would be great if it was the same weight so that it does not add weight or offset the weight distribution....

I have the stock diff sitting in my garage... I'm willing to weigh it, if someone can go to the aftermarket diff websites and check those... stock is heavy i recall

The sites really don't say anything about weight, but I'll keep looking for it...

very interested in weight reduction, here are my opinions:
-CF Front fenders, are the seibon lighter than stock?
-CF racing mirrors, they dont make them for the Z?

-How much weight will you increase in the front with a supercharger? :S
the intercooler, piping, water pump, etc...

Josh@STILLEN 01-25-2010 11:53 PM

*might* have power-to-weight ratio on your side.. :D

Im sure it will :yum: :driving:

but any approximation of the weight added? caz it will be abit harder to balance it with the rear..

- CF front fenders: The stock fenders probably weigh 3-4 lbs. each so not much room for any major improvements there. The SEIBON dry carbon might save a lb. or two, but I can almost guarantee that their regular carbon ones are at best, the same weight. They are 10mm wider though, which is awesome.

- CF racing mirrors: Haven't seen any 370Z specific ones yet, but as reference swapping the OEM 350Z mirrors to tiny, non-motorized Craftsquare mirrors saved 1 lb. each side.

- Supercharger system: Expect anywhere from 60-100 lbs. probably in added parts/fluids.

Why would you want to balance the car at 50/50 when the car's designer put a small forward bias that was designed to give the car perfect 50/50 when exiting a corner under WOT?

Haha Josh that Gen3 for free sale came too late for me, I would have jumped all over that but went with the Berk group buy, oh well. C'est la vie.

anasmak11 01-26-2010 11:29 PM

so if the supercharger weighs 100 lbs, and about 9 lbs is equal to 1 hp, you only need 11.1 hp more to offset the weight increase?

For accelleration, yes. There's no doubt your car will accelerate faster with an SC. Cornering and braking will always be affected negatively by weight though.

Need some clarification from the first page, are stock cats 21lbs each or total?
