Anyone know.. please? I need to buy a battery as the stock one is very weak (12.2v resting) and only makes sense to replace it with a lighter battery.. Thanks

more guys...keep it up!

I'm always taking my z33 to the limit with weight reduction...yes it's not for everyone but it sure changes the look feel and over all appreciation of how much weight can be saved.

Z33 Nismo start weight 3385
currently my car weights 3040+/- with ac and all glass

Has anyone looked into weight loss for the current tools and spare?

I have been doing research but it seems that people would just rather not drive with one. Anyways for the people WHO DO want to keep their spare and tools has anyone found an alternative tool set or lighter spare tire? I was looking at maybe a Bridgestone Tracompa-2 145/18/r17 (11lbs) for $167. Its hard to find exact numbers for the current 35lb spare but from my guess is that its at least a 9lb loss if the rim is 15.5lbs (estimated "17x8" inch enkei Rims). anyone know the wight of that rim?

Yes trying to save weight like this is dumb, i know. Will this make a difference on its own, heck no. I already saved weight in all the really important places and am just making plans for the future. I'm looking to try and build the lightest, super comfy 370z. This is just for fun. I don't really need it, just want it!

Also thanks for all the past work. You guys are awesome.

Are there any possible weight reductions on sway bars or coilovers?
I will guess that sway bars will always weigh more for stiffness?

Also how much weigh can i really save off rims?

Sways/coilovers I would not focus on weight loss, those changes are more geared towards other means (adding/subtracting) from those points is minor especially with how low they are to the ground.

Wheels can be pretty significant from factory, especially if you go from 19" down to 18" and also focus your objective on rotational loss not just pure weight loss.

Anyone replace the stock Strut Tower Bar that weighs a ton?

Similar to a single bar like this picture:

gbrettin 09-28-2016 11:12 AM

I'm going to make my own light weight brace.

I posted this hoping someone knows where we can find a lightweight strut bar similar to this picture. Our stock piece is a monster in weight.

I found one company in Canada that makes a single strut bar for our 370Z and claims it is 10lbs. If true it would be a big weight reduction. The only problem is the internet is full of bad reviews and experiences with this company.

Have to keep looking and or try to have one made.

def will check this out ...
I'm running the new AAM Competition Intake Manifold so it might not fit around the front ...
probably need one that runs over the top like OEM.

gbrettin 09-29-2016 08:15 AM

I'm also going to make a cromoly brace over the winter and make a few extra. I'll likely sell it cheaper than that.

Hey everyone. So I can give you guys some insight into the glass aspect on the Z seeing as how I work for Safelite. You can definitely shave around five pounds installing an aftermarket windshield depending on the brand.
There are a few brands I would definitely stay away from however. Benson, Xyg, and most recently Pilkington. Pilkington used to be a great manufacturer for aftermarket windshields but it looks they have shifted their focus on quality towards they're OEM partnerships.

If you need your windshield replaced I would recommend asking for brands such as Fuyao, AGC, or PGW. They're lighter than the OEM Carlex brand and meet the same DOT safety standards with excellent quality.

josemartinrea 04-03-2017 03:38 AM

And there are people that would shy away from Fuyao simply because they are a Chinese company. I can assure you that this company actually makes better quality glass than some of the American brands.

Depending on where you live, replacement usually runs around $350 with Safelite. Cheaper if you bring it into a shop and easier on the technician as well.

Awesome information

Any specs into each glass weights ?

josemartinrea 04-05-2017 02:08 AM

Unfortunately not. I didn't have a scale when I compared the weights by simply lifting it. I do know Fuyao and AGC felt like the two lightest. There is also a brand called Saint Gobain Sekurit that I know makes the lightest windshields I have ever come across. They didn't have one in stock at the warehouse so I wasn't able to compare that one. If that brand even makes windshields for the Z. They're an OEM manufacturer for VW, Porsche, and a handful of Nissans.

If you're not shy, drive naked. T-Shirt, Jeans, Shoes, Socks = 4 ibs:

In all seriousness though the driver mod is one of the best mods you can do. I am 6'0 currently weighing in at 190. I can stand to lose 20-30ibs and still be at a healthy weight.
