I ran a Odyssey battery in my Mazdaspeed6. Even after an hour of engine off, stereo on it fired right up.

Odyssey PC680

My understanding is that these batteries are equal to Braille (made by the same company) and are quite a bit cheaper.

M.Bonanni 01-19-2009 11:57 AM

+1 for the Odyssey PC680. I run that in my time attack car.

RCZ 01-19-2009 12:01 PM

Which one of the Odyssey's can handle daily use and how much does it weigh and cost?

PC680 works fine for daily use. It weighs in at 14 lbs. and I can get you one for $121.95 + Shipping.

RCZ 01-19-2009 12:13 PM

Perfect, will send you a PM when I get the car.

Sounds good. :)

Endgame 01-19-2009 12:21 PM

Wow. Getting this car to be lighter will not be too bad at all. When I pick up mine, I will probally also do an Odyssey. Let's see:

1. Wheels & Tires (CE28N's) = about 20 pounds less
2. Aftermarket Exhuast (probally Nismo) = let's say 10 pounds less when compared to the last Nismo exhaust.
3. Odyssey Batter = 20 pounds
4. No spare = 35 pounds
EQUAL: 85 pound reduction. WOW....

DD - Will the PC680 work on a car that only get driven two to three times a week??

Absolutely. It works on my time attack car which only gets driven 3-4 times a year :D.

M.Bonanni 01-19-2009 01:32 PM

Stock Battery = 35 lbs.

http://www.doubledownmotorsports.com...teryweight.jpg

So we are talking about a 71 lb. weight loss by just removing the spare, sub, and tools along with replacing the battery with an Odyssey PC680! Thats nuts. Thats the cheapest pound per dollar savings you can get!

Cown3d 01-19-2009 01:37 PM

dang, def not bad...

TomatoEvo 01-19-2009 01:59 PM

Just a heads up for you guys.

Braille is simply a rebadged Deka battery, I've purchased both for my evo and both performed equally well. Again Deka sells the exact same battery as Braille at around half the cost. Its just a matter of finding the model number (which completely escapes me at the moment). Just putting a word out to save you guys a few bucks. :)

SnakeBitten 01-19-2009 02:01 PM

Love the info in this thread. Now we have a cost effective choice on batteries Oddesy and Deka. Great info guys.. Reps for both of ya.

RCZ no prob. On a side note when I first saw Voltphreaks I dont remember the prices being that high..The ones I saw initially way back were in the $400-700 range if my memory serves. Voltphreaks are great from what I heard if you have the disposable funds to justify that kind of coin for a battery. I love the Braile/Deka poundage per dollar ratio much better lol....

SnakeBitten 01-19-2009 02:36 PM

For the truly anal track rat who is after every lb of weight saving they can get how bout some lightweight wheel nuts. You can save a little more than a lb "overall". Not much per corner but it is about 1lb off the car overall...Muteki, Kyokugen, Rays etc all offer these lightweight lugs that are legal in most racing venues....

Free flow cats or testpipes should be lighter than the stock cats also so may save a lb or two there. It really gets hard after the major league boat anchors are removed.

The problem with lightweight aluminum lugs when tracking is heat. I have had a few sets of aluminum lugs weld themselves to the studs because of the heat ruining the lugs and studs.

SnakeBitten 01-19-2009 02:48 PM

^^^That puts an end to that mod lol...Good info that most of us would have never known.

Wonder if we can get you to take out and weigh the stock seats/brackets for reference vs the seats RCZ listed:tup:

In the engine bay, under the cover that says battery on it.

^^I remember vaguely a post about that guy lol. That is the definition of anal. I think it was a black STi if memory serves. Total JDM stuff etc.

I appreciate the response, but as I don't own a Z yet I was looking for a more specific answer. Like front/rear of engine bay driver/passenger side.

Thanks

Oh, rear of engine bay, passenger side.

I wasn't mad or anything. In re-reading my response I could see how the "thanks" could be misconstrued as sarcasm, but it was the result of a habit, from work emails.

RCZ 01-20-2009 05:11 PM

haha, ok. I just try and keep forums as light hearted as possible

M.Bonanni 01-20-2009 07:09 PM

As promised, stock touring package seat weighed. Result = 47 lbs. each.

http://www.doubledownmotorsports.com/370zstockseat.jpg

http://www.doubledownmotorsports.com/370zstockseat2.jpg

And a bonus, I weighed a BRIDE Zeta III and rail (for 350Z). Result = 26 lbs. each.

http://www.doubledownmotorsports.com...eta3weight.jpg

http://www.doubledownmotorsports.com...ta3weight2.jpg

And even threw the seat in the car for a few shots :). *No the 370Z brackets aren't here yet, they will be here 5-7 weeks.

SnakeBitten 01-20-2009 07:50 PM

Mike is da man. Thanks for the effort. Looks like 100lbs plus drop wont be a problem...

frost 01-20-2009 07:51 PM

Awesome job.

M.Bonanni 01-20-2009 10:06 PM

Thanks fellas. I will weigh more stock vs. aftermarket stuff as parts start getting swapped out :).

Endgame 01-21-2009 12:38 AM

Now what about this.... If we remove the spare tire in the rear, will that throw the weight distribution off more so??

Endgame 01-21-2009 09:05 AM

My bad... I will go back and look for the comments...

RCZ 01-21-2009 01:28 PM

No sir, but I can.

Namir 01-21-2009 02:22 PM

Mike is the man. Now taking requests??

This one is a little off the wall but can you get the volume of windshield washer fluid? I know some BMW guys that dump an easy 10-12 pounds by emptying the washer fluid before they track. (BMW's have large washer reservoirs).

I have no idea how to measure that. If its something that I can un-bolt and put on a scale, I'm good too go. :) Maybe its in the owner's manual...
