Question for 7AT owners.

Ocassionally when I downshift into 4th gear I feel a bump / jolt sensation from floorpan area. Was wondering if you guys ever noticed this?

I have never noticed this while downshifting. I have noticed that the 3-4 upshift locks in hard sometimes if you drive aggressively. You can definitely feel that.

I should have explained clearer originally, it feels like a bang/thud from underneath car area. It may have to do with the car being finacky about what speed I am at when I downshift to 4th gear.

Could be a faulty mount but I think you would notice it at other times and not just 5-to-4. Could be incorrect fluid fill level - dealer can check level. My guess is that it's normal - mine will make a harder-than-usual shift every now and then.

Mine sees to do it when it downshifts at the same time I touch the gas.

I wouldn't use an auto transmission like a manual in the down direction unless I'm dropping from smallest gear to pass. I'm old school but doesn't sound like a good idea. I think I'm just old and the idea of using an automatic transmission to brake with the engine and/or shift like an automatic just feels odd.
I had a 2012 Honda Accord V6 and it had paddle shifters but I just couldn't bring myself to treat it that way, haha.

yeah its very unnatural to downshift to brake in the 7at so far. Maybe I still do not have the feel for it. I go out thinking yeah!! im going to use the paddles.. and then forget.

I know how you feel - using a Turbo 350, TorqueFlite, &c for braking was not a good idea. But, with the TCM playing nanny, I don't think you are going to do much damage unless you get crazy with it (eg, downshifting so RPM go to 6000). It seems to me that this transmission was made to handle downshifting/braking. YMMV

I seldom think to use the paddles. Old habits are hard to break.

I used to get some pretty hard shifts up and down but ever since I overided the tune that came with the Stillen supercharger and replaced it with one from R/T tuning it's shifting like a super car. Also I down shift to brake all the time and haven't had any problems. I think the car is made for it. The only thing that bothers me is when I slow down and down shift sometimes the car drops two gears instead of one due to the sync Rev. This makes the RPM's jump a lot higher than anticipated

I too experience this and so does my neighbor with an G37 coupe. I notice a thud/bang more so in stop-n-go traffic. Right around the 3-4 4-3 shift points. Dealership told me it was normal but, I think different. My bet is on fluid issues.

You can down shift to match gear to engine and road speed... it was designed for that.

It can be rough, in part, because the ECU rev matches and because you are in full lock up 2 -7, so no soft fluid coupling to make it all feel smooth.

Or, just let it down shift itself.

Default Question for 7AT owners.

Downshifting in this car is part of what makes it fun to drive I say.

I always downshift when coming to a stop. Just don't shift from 2-1 manually. Let the car do that one on its own.

3-4 can lock hard especially if you drive spirited and then take it easy. The ecu kind of learns the driving style and then when you back off it doesn't compensate for it immediately.

I don't mind the hard shifts. I think it's just the nature of the ecu constant adapting to the driving style.

Yeah, I generally always let the car downshift, but when I do downshift it is down to 3rd gear only and I let the car do the rest.
