Default ScanGuage II. Anyone?

Hey guys, I used to run a Dashhawk in the past on my G8 GT, and was familiar with the ScanGuage II.

Just curious if anyone is using one of these or an alternative on their 370Z.

I'd like something that can monitor conditions but mainly 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

I have a ScanGuageII that sits on top of the dash. The user interface is rather "klunky" but the unit works very well for monitoring variables. I haven't tried any of the timing or fuel economy features.

Another option is an OBD/CAN-to-USB (or Bluetooth) adapter and a monitoring/logging program to run on a tablet or laptop. Edit: See the link to the OBD/CAN Wiki in my sig for more info on free monitoring/logging programs.

Subbed. I looked at getting one of these but I'm not sure if the way I want to mount it would work.

Ya ScanGuage II is almost an older design for this day and age. Great a few years ago but maybe not for 2014. I'm wondering how accurate the 0-60 1/4 mile times are. I'd just like to be able to measure for myself where my launch and shift techniques are at as well as improvements from modifications.

Also don't want to be banging gears for a 1/4 mile run with my laptop on the passenger seat

I know a few guys who run the bluetooth OBD2 port to a smartphone/tablet setup and really like it.

I wanted it for monitoring capability. I was going to grab one of these- ScanGauge II* 3-in-one automotive computer to mount it but I haven't seen anyone hardwire one of these things in yet.

^^^This exactly. I don't mind mine being out of the way, and I'm sure I could mount it discretely somewhere.

For the $99-149 that I have seen this listed at I would love to have one. Instead of speculating my 0-60, 1/4 mile times and improvements from mods.

IIRC, it uses standard Ethernet cabling, so adding an extension or splicing the OEM cable should be fairly easy. Or you may be able to order a longer OBD-to-SG2 cable.

That should give you enough info to Google what you need to know. I'd start by looking for a pinout of the OBD-to-SG2 cable. If it's nothing but wires, you can order the connectors (standard parts) and raw cable and make it whatever length you need. If you can't find what you need, let me know and I'll see what I can figure out.

My initial thought was to use an OBD splitter and the scangauge cord and frankenstein them together. That way I still have a free OBD port. Is it powered through the OBD port? If that's the case it's easy.

Excellent idea.

If there are no electronics in the OBD-to-SG2 cable (I can't remember if there are or not), make your own cable. Should be a lot neater than trying to splice the OEM cable. Or you could get a OBD extension cable and plug the SG2 cable into it under the dash somewhere.

I use a splitter just so I don't wear out the car's data port.

Yes, the SG2 is powered from the data port.

Edit: If you get an OBD splitter, get one with a 90-degree connector at the data port. Makes tucking the cables away a LOT easier.

LOL I thought the same thing. It's definitely not user-friendly. But more buttons would mean a larger case. Same with a graphical display. It does a great job of being a very compact monitor.

The fastest display refresh rate on mine is 0.5 second but I don't know how fast it's reading data and updating internally. You should be able to find out at the SG2 web page.

Well if you get a chance to do a quick 0-60 run with it, I would love to know how acurate it is!

I'm using a GTech Pro RR. It can lock onto a max of 12 GPS satellites for very accurate readings. Better than devices using accellerometers or one gps satellite. You can still use a mobile app for monitoring engine parameters.
