That is so incredibly neat. Really digging your status updater as well. I am so anxious to see more goodies.

Thank you :)

What would be nice to add to the list is; some of us have Nismo's or have converted to the NISMO front bumpers, and the tow hook shaft is too short, a custom tow hook is hard to come by because of the bumper cover extents another 3-4 inches further than stock. The same goes for using the a custom license plate mount,
Usually we have to out source a new shaft to be machined or cut and weld the shaft from a standard Z to extend it because of the different in length. |
People that have done or designed aftermarket intake manifolds (or adapted GTR manifolds) found that the stock design of the strut tower brace won't clear hood. Will you be making your strut bar to look like the OEM one or like this in order to address the clearance issue?

absolutely. We are just waiting on the waterjet to come in so we can get busy on stuff like this. There is a fine line between cost and ingenuity and we are trying to find that fine line. It costs a ton to have an inexpensive product and an expensive product but I think our company is headed in that direction, the having 2 lines of products kind of deal |

A license plate mount is also in the works, Just forgot to add that to the list. I can add an option so that you the customer can choose the bar length. That being said, what lengths do we need to add to the site? |
So happy to see all this progress, haha. It's a nice change. ^^
I think a Nismo owner could tell you the lengths of his tow hook. |

I need to see how wide something like that is, its possible to make it out of components that bolt together...no welds
how wide do you think that is? My max capacities are 51 inches on the mill |
Distance from tower to tower is 44in. Distance from firewall braces to front of stock intake manifold is around 19in.
|
hmmmmm What would you guys pay for something thats solid aluminum thats milled out or a combo of waterjet components that are cnc milled out and bolted together? Something like the GTR brace only lighter, stronger, and zero welds
|
No idea. That GTR brace is $600. KM Front Strut Tower Brace Kit, R35 Nissan GT-R, SFS_R35_StrutBar but that has welds and I don't know what the rest of the manufacturing process is.
|
I might come in around the same price maybe an extra $100-150
|
I think that's reasonable.
|
man... gonna take some special dies and a lot of muscle to bend that extruded aluminum on that axis. pretty cool.
|
who said it has to be extruded aluminum ;) why not make it out of plate and add webbing on the backside? Would be stronger and perform better! Just takes a big cnc mill to machine something like that out ;) I just so happen to have something with those travels.
|
I am just commenting on that particular GTR version. Ya its not worth tooling up custom to make a strut bar for just one car. Watch out for the weight fiends in the Z world if you go 1 solid billet on that sucker. Good thing CAD can tell you exactly what it weighs before you machine it.

The only downside to removing the rear angles is that:
1. a triangle is a stronger shape right? 2. it will make that center trim piece look very odd with nothing going under it? :ugh2: |
Quote:
1. The rear angles would be kept. The difference is that the main bar wont run straight from tower to tower, it will run in front of the intake manifold. Might not be the strongest shape but it's better than removing the brace altogether. 2. With a different manifold, the center trim piece would no longer fit. |

I gotta side with the function > form guys on this one... :ugh2: I don't mean the engine cover trim, I mean the center trim piece under the windshield wipers... That doesn't get removed for swapping an IM? |
Uhh who said this was for looks? This is for people who will be using aftermarket intake manifolds and want a solution, albeit a slightly compromised one, for the strut tower brace.. GTM and ChrisUR already proved the stock one can't be used with aftermarket/GTR intake manifolds. Phunk is close to arriving at the same conclusion and I assume once AZ starts on his manifold he will see that as well.
The bars going to the center trim piece would still be there. |
function always takes over form...but I can make form and function be 1 in the same ;)
|
This is rather...ugly.. but you get idea. Rear angle bars would be there. The center piece would be similar to the GTR brace posted earlier.

I thought that's why you highlighted the rear bars in my pic was that those would go away? (I must have misread what you were explaining, my bad.) Quote:

But PLEASE AZ, make a front bar that does look more aesthetically pleasing than the one seen here... |
Yes please.
|
Probably would be worth looking into doing an intake kit that works with the GTR manifold...
One of my hesitations with it, aside from the minimal NA gains, is that it won't work with any aftermarket intakes currently. ChrisUR had to modify his Stillen GenIIIs to make them work. |
We plan to do an entire intake system...what we really need is someone willing to drop their car off for a few weeks. Free parts of course :)

Wish you were in Canada... you could have mine for six months at a time.... lol
|
Wish you were i the USA, I would have your car back to you in 1 month ;)

If my car wasn't already at UPREV, I would jump at that opportunity. By the time I get my car back, you will definitely have a donor............

We shall see!

Florida, I think, could possibly be the furthest away from Arizona in the ConUS.
Damn it. >.> |
