These posts have been beat up pretty bad. There should be tons in archives. There is also a bunch in bobistheoilguy. There was a recent posting on Ester oil in the general area that talks about several oils including your oils and Group 111-Group V oils in general. I would say: do research, pick a good full synthetic, and run it and get some oil testing done to see how it is holding up...

BlackStone is a good place to test the oil.

Power differential between oils will never be noticable.

Out of those two you mentioned, I would say Redline.

However, its Amsoil for me.

I've only been researching synthetic oils since the recent purchase of my z, so take this with a grain of salt.

If you're spending money for power, put it towards tuning, intakes or exhaust....not oil. You're not paying $6-10 a quart for power, you're paying for a better quality engine lubricant that lubricates better and protects for much longer durations.

One of the few differences between Mobil 1 and other oils like RP, Redline and Amsoil, is the amount and/or quality of the additives, including the Nissan-recommended esters. Mobil 1's site says the following of their oil:

Quote:
Many synthetic oils, including Mobil 1, contain a variety of synthetic fluids, and usually this includes esters.
Redline, RP and Amsoil are all very open about the quality and amount of additives used in their oil.

I believe the break down is as such, based on about 10 minutes of googling (please correct me if I'm wrong):

Castrol - Group III base with (not sure what group) additives
Mobil 1 - Group III base with Group IV/V additives
Mobil 1 Extended Perf. - Group IV base
RP - Group IV/Group IV blend
Amsoil - Group IV base with Group V additives
Redline - Group V

A google search or 2 can ambigously lay out the differences between the groups, however from what little bit of evidence we have...all 3 provide sufficient lubrication for the engines in our Zs and you should not have any problems stemming from the usage of any of the above.

When you say compared to conventional, do you mean compared to the Nissan Ester (conventional with Ester) or another type of conventional? thanks

While I'm no fan of the French myself, I have to ask: With that logic, why did you even buy a 370Z??? You realize that Nissan is 44% owned by Renault, right? Renault bailed out Nissan ten years ago. Renault is a French company. Do you see a problem here?

I have always used Mobile 1... but my last change there was a nice deal on Royal Purple: 5 quarts and the oil filter for what the 4 quart bottle of Mobile 1 cost.... so i said screw it lets see what all the hype is about...

Dude... this stuff is purple... Like in the color purple. I always thought royal purple was just a name that came out of nowhere... (i get entertained by things like that)

anyways... I have not noticed any difference at all between the Mobile 1 or RP... both work well, both smell good, and both will only be in the car for 3,000 miles.
