Stupid comment. Freedom Fries, anyone? Nissan is what, half-French owned?

France opposed the invasion of Iraq. Who was right?

If not for France, there would be no USA. You know that, yes?

Sorry to keep this guy's OT post going, but this kind of sh*t pisses me off.

As long as it's classified as an "ester" oil, you're doing fine. Both are, BTW (yes, flamers, I did my homework and checked!) I got a sweet deal on Mobil 1 ($4.95/qt. with NO excise tax!). I change it every 7,500k 'cause I'm a conservative driver--60 y.o. I treat her with T.L.C.!

Can you provide a link to where Mobil 1 is listed as having esters?

I might be mistaken, but I think its one of their high mileage formulations.

Now this is interesting. I just found this FAQ on Mobil's site:

https://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English...n_Engines.aspx

Quote:
Question:
Ester Oil and Nissan Engines
I've just purchased a Nissan 2009 370Z, which has a 3.7 liter engine that produces 332 HP @ 7500 RPM's, and has a compression ratio of 11 to 1. I've been advised by the Service Manager at Cronic Nissan to run Ester Oil in the engine rather than a good grade of oil, like a 5W-30W. He said that Nissan recommends it. Well, I've researched everything I can find regarding the use of Ester Oil in my Nissan 2009 370Z, and I've been unable to find anything that alludes to the use of Ester Oil in the 370Z engine! What's up with the Ester Oil thing? The only use for Ester Oil that I'm familiar with is for air conditioner compressors and other types of compressors!
-- Larry Young, Tyrone, GA

Answer:
We have not been able to get much information on the Nissan Ester Oil but our analysis indicates that it is part or full synthetic oil. Many synthetic oils, including Mobil 1, contain a variety of synthetic fluids, and usually this includes esters. We would recommend Mobil 1 5W-30 or Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 for these applications.
Their answer seems kinda dodgy to me. It "usually" includes esters???

I don't think the base M1 has esters according to this, it a group III mineral oil (PAO) with Alkylated Naphthalenes.

PAO is actually a 100% synthetic base stock. I think at one point M1 was using a mix of group 3 and PAO.

My bad. PAO is short for poly-alpha-olefin, which is a Group IV. It is believed that M1 5-30W is a blend of group III and group IV oils.

Go with redline. Great syn oil and redline states on their site that esters are included in 5w30 formula. With m1 you have no idea....they are too classified with the formulation....as if one of us is going to reverse engineer their formula...lol.

LOL, that statement could not be more vague. It suggests that many manufacturers may use esters but in no way commits that Mobil 1 does. I'm sure they do use some but I have to laugh at their data sheets.

I'm thinking since they said "including Mobil 1", they meant "including Mobil 1".

Agree about their data sheets, they don't exactly give away the formulas. Of course, they do not contain the Magic Nissan Nanoparticles, so the oil is entirely useless.
