Exhaust manifolds dumped through the hood? Side exit exhaust?

Sharif@Forged 07-21-2009 04:06 PM

When we are done, the balance of the car should remain fairly close. Once the cage, diff coolers, and all the weight comes out under the dashboard and engine bay, she should be in good shape.

At that point, the overall chassis balance will be fine-tuned via shock, tire, and alignment settings.
This is actually our 3rd full blown race car we've built, so I expect it to be our best one yet. :)

License plate location. :) Will also have V-band quick release silencers, for tracks with noise restrictions. :)

I can't wait to see how this turns out!

Haha. Come on down!!

t-ray 07-21-2009 09:31 PM

Sharif, can you elaborate on the silencers? Are they placed in the tips? Is this something that you are fabricating, or can you link to a part number?

After 4 years, I'm starting to get tired of my exhaust.

We're going to use one or possibly two smaller mufflers/silencers that will be a part of the exhaust system. We dont want to put a restrictor at the tip, as this would choke off some power.

The mufflers/silencers will be installed with v-band clamps, so they can easily be swapped for straight pipes. Burns makes some very nice race mufflers, so we'll probably use something like that.

Sharif@Forged 07-21-2009 09:38 PM

Dashboard and steering wheel is coming out tomorrow. :)

We would love for you to come up and see us! It would be quite a drive. We are about 20 minutes north of Atlanta. Also, we don't have a showroom, so I suggest if you come up you let us do some work on your car ;)

shabarivas 07-22-2009 02:02 PM

Man I wish you guys were @ cali

I drove to Tampa and Orlando a few times, and i took me 8 hrs. So probably another 3 hrs?? I am bad with the map. :)

Anyone is welcome to come by and tour our facility. We have a small showroom but it's mostly office space for the staff. All the fund stuff happens in the back. :) It's always where we keep all the inventory and tasty parts and pieces. :)

ssqpolo 07-22-2009 09:50 PM

nice. well when u guys have my prototype exhaust ready i will be by!:driving: as long as Sandy will show me around, we have a deal:tup::tup:

Ryan@Forged 07-23-2009 08:26 AM

I'll try and get some updated pictures for you guys today. We removed a nice bit yesterday as well. Dash and airbags are out, AC/Radiator is out, brake kit is completely off, etc.

Sharif@Forged 07-23-2009 09:52 AM

Made quite a bit more progress, and the pile is getting bigger. :)

We're about to pull off the interior crash bar, and pull out the heater core/blower, and all the other uneeded items from under there. THere is a quite a bit of weight locked up under the dashboard.

FuszNissan 07-23-2009 09:56 AM

 I am drooling over this. Keep up the nice pics and updates!

Don't you mean pics of the stripped down Sandy with the Z? Errr.. :p

CCCLXXZ 07-23-2009 12:52 PM

Can you PPPPPPLEASE measure the inner diameter of the stock cat flange on the y-pipe side. I have asked many but to no avail I am still searching for the answer. MM or inches would be great!!!

Also if they are for sale PM me a price on what you would like for them.

Thanks!

Nick

Nick

I don't have my stock cats here, but I do have the stock Y-pipe here. My calipers show 42.5mm ID on the Y-pipe flanges on the side where they mate with the stock cats, I would hope/assume the cats are the same.

CCCLXXZ 07-23-2009 01:48 PM

I am pretty sure they aren't the same!!! it should be closer to 2" or 50.8mm I believe... I haven't had the time to take off my y-pipe to check.

Thanks

We'll see if that can be arranged. :tiphat:

CBRich 07-23-2009 07:41 PM

Plan on driving in the rain? Seems like the whole car is stripped but the two stalks.

Ryan@Forged 07-23-2009 10:14 PM

We still have a good bit of weight to lose before we are done stripping the car. It's amazing how much unseen weight is on the car. We still have yet to touch the sound deadening which will add up to a pretty good amount of weight. The blower is still in the car as well, but should be the next part to come off.

tbonesteak 07-24-2009 12:09 AM

OMGGG MOARRRRRRRR!!!

On a side note, it's good to see how many holes there are on the various panels that does not affect structural rigidity. Shows that nissan engineers focused on lowering weight. I love that!

FuszNissan 07-24-2009 12:11 AM

I can't wait for the install of aftermarket goodies!!!

Shouldn't be too much longer ;) The cage will probably be the 1st thing to actually go in the car. After that we will be adding some nice aftermarket parts :yum:

Sharif@Forged 07-24-2009 02:43 PM

The entire car is now empty of the big and small stuff.

Now begins the process of using dry ice to break away all of the heavy sound deadening material. We will probably pull another 40-50lbs of sounds deadening out of the car alone. :)

ChrisSlicks 07-25-2009 01:44 PM

I like that you are going all out on this build, should be very nice. I'll be following intently.

tbonesteak 07-26-2009 12:39 AM

im starvinggg!!! moarrr pleaseeee!!!!!

Ryan@Forged 07-27-2009 08:09 AM

Still working on getting every last bit of sound deadening out of the car :)
