Ryan and Sharif, I'm going to do the same... any advice / weblinks on removing sound deadening material?
|

Just let the dry ice sit on the material for 10 mins or so, and start chipping away with a little hammer and scraper. What's left of the adhesive, can then we removed with a generous application of 3M adhesive remover. Oh, and all the glass is coming out today :) |

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? ???? |

Actually, glass is coming out on Wed, and then will be sent off for lexan. |

More details on glass please... front windshield will be stock glass or lexan? if lexan, will you be able to replicate the curves? for side windows, are you going to leave those open and net them or put in lexan? if lexan on sides, will you make it so they pop on / off easily?
|
make the lexan available for purchase!!!!!

It will be cut to the OEM shape, and we'll make a custom frame to attach it. Pretty standard stuff. All the glass is being removed from the car, so no OEM glass will remain. You can run Lexan on the street, but it's not nearly as resistant to scratching and scuffing, so not all that practical, IMHO. For the front door, we'll run just a small piece of lexan at the front of the door, and the rest will remain open. A window net, and head restraint will be installed for the driver. At this point, I THINK we are going to keep the OEM steering column, and pedals/cylinders, but that may change. The small corner glass will be removed, and replaced with air ducts, which will cool the diff. It will be a lot more fun, with I can post pictures of the work and fabrication we'll be doing, instead of just typing about it. Thanks for being patient, and I am happy to answer any other questions you all have. :) |
Sharif, I'd like to replicate as much as possible of your build. If you're willing to build two sets of any of the parts you fab, I'm standing by to purchase. E.g., lexan pieces, ducting for diff...
Re the pedals, the accelerator pedal assembly made by Bosch seems cheap, I think we'd be better off replacing the whole assembly at some point. Dead pedal needs to be reconstructed too. Brake and clutch seem fine to me + clutch has a sensor at the bottom of pedal stroke to be aware of. Have you started thinking about aero at all? Also, what are your plans to cool front brakes? Going with the new brembo kit or ap racing kit? |

Absolutely. Anything we can replicate or produce is open to the public. I will keep everyone advised as this happens. |
couldn't find a way to subscribe to the thread, so I'll just post this so i can get updates.... GET TO WORK!!!!
|
sharif, care to shed some light on how you will design your exhaust tips and rear body panels? e.g., the new italia exhaust setup looks like it belongs on the track! would prefer to see 2 or 3 centered tips vs one big tip

FYI: All the glass is out now! I will snap some more pics. The body is looking clean and sparse. :) |
woooo do it!
|
Can't wait to see some pictures!
|
Out the sides!! Less weight!
|
agree, but I'd worry about noise restrictions at some tracks... maybe sharif and chris have that figured out too???
|
if you're looking for design inspiration, I think the side exhaust on the outgoing corvette gt1 was tastefully done and well integrated

speaking of which, I wonder what kinda body work would be done (sorry if i missed anything earlier I'm lazy lol)
|
^ probably a real wing and a real front splitter. Waiting to see what they do for aero so I can copy it ;)
|
^i guess hope so! huge wings that works is good

How much does the car weigh now? And I think that the updates should also be placed within the first post as well as new posts. Or just placing post numbers that have the updates, in the original post.

Looking forward to updates! is the cage in yet? |

Tomorrow, I will post a new pic of our progress so far, and we'll have a little guess the weight game. :) Wait until I post pics before the guessing starts. |
Anyone care to phathom a guess on the car's weight? The person that guesses the closest will recieve a set of Samco hoses for their 370Z!
