Haha, Glass would be nice too ;)

shabarivas 08-04-2009 10:58 AM

nah lol - in all seriousness - thats a lot of weight off - 2700lb w/ 300whp would be sick

travisjb 08-04-2009 11:36 AM

wow, congrats ! gives me a target to aim for ! I'm probably about 400 pounds away from that number right now !

2700 is not going to happen. Although 2515 is very light and we are very pleased at this point, it is not in driving condition. The car has no glass, seats, roll cage, or entire brake system. All of those will add up to a weight well above 2700. That would be a sick power/weight. We will have to see how close we can get, although we have plans for well over 300whp.

shabarivas 08-04-2009 12:19 PM

Ha ha I am sure that thing you are working on is going to be a beast to say the least... but glass + seats + cage + brakes = what 3-400 at most... so you guys would have a 2900lb Z - still quite impressive :)

That's the plan :) And see if we can make 350whp ;)

Sharif@Forged 08-04-2009 01:58 PM

What is this glass you speak of? :)

Target is 2750 dry, with cage and eveything.

Did you all forget this car was weighed with a full tank of gas which is at least 100lbs right there. Oh, and the OEM tank is coming out too. :)

ssqpolo 08-04-2009 01:59 PM

^^noice! and congrats on your podium finishes with the GTR

shabarivas 08-04-2009 02:03 PM

My my... thats what about 600lbs knocked off... even if you didnt touch the engine / power mods - that should be good for mid 12s w/ a good driver... and I reckon that thats a mighty fun power to weight ratio

Sharif@Forged 08-04-2009 09:23 PM

If each of my tech's grab a corner/side we can carry the car around the shop. :)

hide187 08-04-2009 09:46 PM

RCZ, insightful as always! :p

That hurts...to see a brand spanking new, sexy car get stripped down like that.

Leave it stock dammit!!!

LOL. It's a race car build. Leaving it stock would defeat the whole purpose.

hahaha, sorry, I need to stop typing my thoughts out.

But seriously, 800lbs is a ridiculous amount of weight...its 24% off.

How can I be somewhat insightful here...hmm...

At 2515lbs and 332hp it has a power/weight ratio of .13hp/lb or 7.57lb/hp.
That is the same as 290kg/ton.

Cars that are in this range include:

Morgan Aero 8: 4.5s to 60 and 12.7 quarter
Marcos LM500: 4.7s to 60
Ferrari 575 Maranello: 4.2s to 60 and 12.5 quarter
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
AC Cobra 427
2001 Acura NSX V6 4.5 12.9
1993 Dodge Viper RT/10 4.5 13.2
2003 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT 4.5 12.9

So if Forged were to throw a seat and run it at the track, expect something along the lines of a 4.4 0-60 and a 12.5 quarter.

Thats if they didn't add any power....

shabarivas 08-05-2009 12:48 PM

its quite crazy to think of it like that - but im close to throwing all my **** out the car and going for a spin

nogoodname 08-05-2009 12:50 PM

that's nuts....lol

GO FOR IT! I've got my car half way gutted... and it is DEFINITELY faster... I think that will show at the track this weekend... it is a short 1.1 mile track with like 15 cars on at once so plenty of opportunity for passing... will have video up this weekend

That's the kind of stuff I like to see ;)

Can't wait to see the results of you guys putting in one of your built blocks with higher compression and forged internals. I think with the gains that have been seen from just installing the Stillen breathing mods and no tune, you guys should have no problem cracking 350whp on this baby with your motor modifications and a custom CBE with a tune/supporting mods. 8500 RPM Redline anyone? What a beast this could be. :eekdance:

Short tracks+light cars=fun! It's always fun to piss off the higher whp cars and the short tracks. :)

Yes indeed....There is much speed to be had with proper setup, and testing time. Adding power is the easy part, IMHO. We'll see how fast this beast will go soon enough!

t-ray 08-05-2009 11:43 PM

Are you gonna stick with the stock gears?

travisjb 08-06-2009 09:47 AM

Hey Sharif, on another thread, we were talking about potential weight savings from de-pining unnecessary wiring... did you guys already pull wiring? how much weight do you think this saved?

Also, are you going to remove or replace the bumper supports with lighter weight setup?

Yes, stock gears, gearbox, and ring/pinion. The OEM Nissan stuff has proven race worth, so no plans to upgrade.

The OEM bumper crash beams are fairly lightweight aluminum. Believe it or not, we actually want to maintain the front and rear OEM crash protection, and it's very good at absorbing energy. Hopefully we wont be putting it to the test, but spins, offs, and bumps are all part of the game.

All the uneeded harnesses are unplugged, depinned, and removed. Not saving much weigh there, but it does clean things up nicely.

Ryan@Forged 08-06-2009 10:42 PM

I think we have done almost everything we can on weight savings. We had the car up on the lift late today and were struggling to find even the smallest part that we could remove. The car was obviously designed to be as light as possible.

shabarivas 08-07-2009 11:53 PM

and what was it?

Sorry, my question was not one of reliability, rather it was in regards to the final drive ratio. How often do you top out 5th gear? And if you ever do, can you actually accelerate in 6th gear at those speeds?

You will definately use 6th gear at many tracks, and there is acceleration capability in 6th in problem at all.

Really depends on the track, as to how often you will use 6th gear.

Does that answer your question?

t-ray 08-10-2009 04:37 PM

Yes, thanks. I know it's probably a newb question, but I've never taken anything over ~120mph.

At your target hp levels, at that weight, that car is going to be major fun. But I bet if would be even moreso with 3.9's or 4.0's in there.

3.9 would be too short a gear for the power levels, and intended use for this car.

For an NA car, and more moderate power/weight setup, there may be some benifit to the 3.9 rear end.

RCZ 08-11-2009 09:11 PM

Man, coming from an STI, I can tell you that short gears are fun for like 10 minutes, it gets very old to shift from 1st at 15mph and cruising on the highway 80mph @ 3800 rpm.

Not to mention a car with 400+ and 2750lbs can most certainly make use of long gears :)
