Default rev limiting on 2010 vs 2013?

I recently test drove a brand new 2013 automatic 370z non-Nismo at a dealer. Executing a full throttle, traction control 'on', red line (~7200 RPM or so) pass, the transmission automatically shifted into the next higher gear despite being in 'M' shifting mode (i.e. I did not shift the transmission).
I also test drove 2 different low mileage 2010 370Z in the same configuration (auto trans, etc) but with a very different result. Under same conditions, the engine experienced severe bogging at the same red line RPM but did not shift into the next higher gear. It was as though the engine had a rev limiter kick in so the revs would go no higher than 72-7400 RPM.
The only difference was that on the 2010 models I had traction control turned off, but turned 'on' on the 2013 passes.
Which, if either, is normal? Was there a design change between 2010 and 2013?
Comments welcome.

I have a '09 7AT and it wont shift for you at redline in M mode but it will cut power so you dont keep bouncing off the rev limiter.

My 09 will hold the gear indefinitely regardless of traction control(or I guess till oil temps reach 280F)

I'd be really disappointed if Nissan changed the programming to make it upshift automatically. To me, that'd be a step in the wrong direction.

So apparently the two 2010s I drove are functioning normally, power cut at redline.
Agree that auto shifting is "a step in the wrong direction", but to deliberately cut power at any RPM is even worse.
What about the manual transmission cars? Is the power cut at redline? Anyone tested this above redline in a manual trans?

What do you mean? For the most part, all cars cut power around redline, that's what rev limit means.

In the case of the 370Z, I believe the rev limit is done via the ETC but cutting back the throttle.

yes the first rev limiter is a throttle cut.

If you read his post he says the newer one UP SHIFTED rather than just cutting throttle and hanging out @ redline.

According to the dealer, the shift characteristics were changed in 2013 so that the tranny upshifts before the engine rev limiter kicks in. In effect, the tranny is rev limiter.

Is there any known way to defeat the rev limiter on 2010 Zs?

Do the manual transmission equiped Zs have the same engine rev limiter as the automatic trans equiped Zs?

The 2011 i test drove didn't shift at redline until i shifted it in M mode. Not sure what was wrong with the 2 auto's the OP test drove.
