mocal thermostatic plate leak?

hello, just wondering if anyone has experienced a faulty mocal thermostatic plate/leak? it seems there is some oil seeping from the thermostat area (as far as i can tell). i

Default mocal thermostatic plate leak?

hello,

just wondering if anyone has experienced a faulty mocal thermostatic plate/leak? it seems there is some oil seeping from the thermostat area (as far as i can tell). i havent tried tightening the thermostat down, since im not sure if its advisable, but its not leaking much oil. i figured since its been almost 1k miles since i installed the oil cooler, i should check the lines (i check the oil level daily too)

please see the pic below..should i call Z1 for a replacement? should i try to torque it down first? thoughts??

No leaks on mine but I've only had mine on for about the 1500 miles or so as well. I'd contact Z1 and see what they say. If it helps you sleep better, there's a phrase we have in aircraft maintenance--if it's leaking that means it has fluid; when it stops leaking that's when you are ******

I would put some teflon tape on it at your next oil change

put some teflon tape where? is it ok to remove that bolt at the thermostat?

Hope DR pops back in but yea, if you are comfortable pulling the switch and putting teflon tape on the threads and reinstalling it it should seal it a little better. Might be a pain...wasn't there a bigass spring in there if I recall?

yup! there is a huge spring in there...not sure if its right to remove the bolt. ill wait for some others to chime in before i go that route

Sorry my last post was lame. I would do several steps before taking the thermostat housing out to put tape on it. For all I know there might already be tape on there.

I'm not 100% sure that this is a leak at the thermostat. It might be that it just happens to be at the lowest so that is where the oil goes. If you have enough length in your lines you might want to rotate the plate so that the thermostat it is on top.

Another option is to call one of the bigger Mocal distributers, like Pegasus, and see what they have to say. .

there isnt any tape on it. its just sealed with a rubber O-ring.

I disasembled mine last winter because I wanted to smooth the edge for better flowing .

and that oil you got there might be a very tiny leak or just the residual oil from the last time you did the oil change ...

contact the company or just tight the screw a few degree ... its already torqued good to begin with.

thanks, this is exactly the info i was looking for. although, it cant be residual oil from my last oil change! i emptied the pan to install the cooler and tightened everything to spec. at a 1000 miles...there was a small dried up puddle of oil on the undertray, and this is the only place i found that had some oil on it. ill go ahead and try tightening the screw a smidge to see if it helps

if i do take it out though, how hard is it to get the spring and screw back in?
