Oil/Engine Temp Sensor

So, the indicated temp is the pan temperature? Meaning this it the coolest point just prior to entering the engine? I would rather it be at the hottest point, after

I would rather it be at the hottest point, after engine before cooler...

220 is a lot different coming out, than 220 going in.
