Default Anyone have experience with Exedy or Carbonetic twin plate clutches?

I have been looking into twin plate clutches lately pretty heavily. Looks like I have narrowed my choices to Exedy, Carbonetic, and OS Giken. I had good results (as well as a few of my friends) with the OS Giken, but I am curious to see how Exedy and carbonetic fair also. Not sure how the OS Giken will work with the upgraded (metal instead of plastic) CSC, but Exedy claims that their application will work well with the upgraded CSC.

Let me know what you guys think. Hopefully Sam/GTM will chime in with some expert advise as well. This may prove to be a good source of info for the community if we can get some of the shops/experts to share their insight. Thanks in advance.

Rob

I've had both the Carbonetics and Exedy in my 350z. What exact info are you looking for? Although both dual plate carbon, they behave very differently. What are your plans with the car?

Looking to do a GTM Stage 2 TT setup. I wanted another option as far as twin plate clutches go. I did speak to Sam though. He suggested the OS Giken and CSC upgrade over everything else. Thanks for your response though.

Haven't tried the OS Giken. But just for informational purposes since I know you already decided on OS Giken, the Carbonetics and Exedy carbon clutches are very different in their drivability depending on your build purpose.

Carbonetics is more of a race clutch. On/Off operation but the plus side is that it does not need to be warmed up to grab, especially around the 500-600rwtq levels. The flywheel is very loud under 2k rpms though. And I mean "dump truck" loud.

Exedy is a company that makes a lot of OEM clutches, so they really focus on drivability. It has more play and a longer engagement point, making traffic light take offs a lot easier. However to grab anything higher than 500rwtq, especially in the higher gears where there is a lot of load, you need to burn the clutch a bit to warm it up.

Hope this helps.

Not on the Z, but I ran the Carbonetics twin disk on my S2000. I think most people would say that it was not streetable. I drove it on the street without issues, but it's definitely pretty aggressive.
