Check the coolant also. LOL

Hope this works out for you. Sounds like the dealer is helping you and not fighting it. I'm glad to hear that.

I have doubts that the crank pulley mod would cause this, but remember you're messing with how the engine was designed. The new pulley could (I mean it's possible, not absolute!) cause internal engine vibrations that might lead to cracking of critical components. Harmonics do play a role in engine longevity.

Best of luck to you! :hello:

Were you able to look under the car at all? It could be a hole in the block, oil pan, or your oil filter came loose from not correctly tightening. You also said you were low on oil, did you do your own oil change and use a new copper gasket and make sure the drain plug was properly tightened?

Good luck.

What??? Do the G3s present a problem? I'm not going to need a tune am I?

when i saw your mods and it said pulley! i instantly thought oh no. Heard to many horror stories with them.

If all you have are G3's, you are fine. By themselves, they are not going to affect A/F much. If you have full bolt-ons (test pipes more than anything else with other mods), you should consider it. None of the above should lean your car out to the point you would have serious detonation, but your mods would be much more effective with a tune.

Thats the problem i rarely checked the oil level! you dont expect a brand new car to suck it like a 20 dolla hooker. Anyway ive learned my lesson!!! basically we gotta check the oil level every month cuz they took out the damn oil pressure gauge. That gauge was my best friend in my 350z.

Very true, but you need to check every week for the first 10k miles on any car you buy. It's up to you to determine the oil usage baseline.

Oil pressure would not indicate low oil level. A Corolla will run forever with no oil maintenance but you can't expect a 332hp sports car to do the same thing.

If I could find a $20 hooker my life would be much better!

Ok, all I have is G3's and a CBE so I assume I'll be ok then. Thanks for the info.

For 2009-2010 owners,

Check your VIN against the TSB. There are specific VINs impacted by this issue. I spoke to my dealer, and they will advise you when you go in for service, that the engine falls in the range. So, it's up to the dealer and yourself to do some due diligence.

Sorry to hear about your Z. My 09 370z motor started going bad at 40k miles. It developed what sounded like a Lifter Tick due to oil consumption. It only consumed 1qt every 3-4k miles which some would say is not that bad but still enough to cause the motor to fail. Got a new (2011) short block installed under warranty after breaking the new short block in I started to see the same oil consumption 1qt every 4,000 miles.

Decided to trade it in for the Corvette Grand Sport.

I think a LS2 powered 370z would be awesome!

Dam! I had been holding out for a 2011 z34, too!!!:shakes head:

TBS2008 i dont mind checking the oil every week end or so but i shouldn't of trusted that its a new car and its (suppose) to be perfect in a way to not burn oil like a CIVIC. i learned my lesson thats for sure! still waiting for my dealer. hope they give me the good news tomorrow.

Hmmm, these things are still rare events, though. I would argue that Westwood was extremely unlucky. Now it's up to Nissan to deliver and make up to you.

But I would not go as far as to discredit the actual engine for its lack of durability - that isn't justified at this point.

To be honest im a lil disappointed, my 350z had 120km when i sold her and she's still running strong! Yes you gotta check the oil more often but you expect that from an older sports car. Anyway i love my Z and will b more careful with the new engine. Besides my dealer and this thread nobody in my city knows my engine is blown and will not brag about it thats for sure.

Westwood 05-12-2011 07:46 PM

Good news im getting a new engine! the bad new is its back ordered they dont have none in Montreal or Toronto... DAMN!!! they have a rush on the order but im sure its no Z for another 2 weeks :(
