Years ago my dad had a '64 Mercedes that was drinking oil (1qt/50 miles). I didn't know this and was driving around one evening and everytime I would accelerate, the gauge would drop to nothing. I put two quarts in and still didn't show anything on the dipstick. :icon14:

Ok, sure...live your life based on the gauge alone and don't bother to open the hood to check oil. :shakes head:

An oil pressure gauge can help determine low oil level but typically under hard cornering or when pushing the go pedal hard. It's mainly a tool for other indicators such as too high oil temp (low pressure), possible relief valve problems (high pressure) or oil pump going out (pressure all over the place).

I believe the Z has an oil warning light anyway so if oil pressure is that bad it will indicate that with an idiot light. Is it really that hard to open the hood and check the dipstick every week?

Hope the new engine is awesome. Cant wait for pics. and new dyno. to see how the new engine performs.

Wow. That's some pretty awful luck.... I hope they do something to take care of you (Nissan should be making your payment while you wait, or something). Man, I hope it all works out....

Wait... are you pulling our leg, you actually traded in the Z for the Maxima?! :stirthepot:

Joke dude, did they ever advise what caused your engine to blow up? Keep us in formed. Also, look on the brighter side, at least the dealer is cautious to ensure you get a mint engine, they could have ignored everything and just slapped that one in.

mikeSS 06-07-2011 03:51 AM

thats freakin sweet, putting rims on the loaner !

DIGItonium 06-07-2011 07:50 AM

Hope you get it back and running soon! My car has been down a few times the past few months. First it was the accident. Then I had to put it down again after the repairs to ship out the headlights. One of the headlights arrived broken internally, but I needed it for a quick photoshoot. So it's down again until one of the headlights get repaired. Nothing as bad as the engine, but still down nonetheless. :-/

Then it'll be down again once I get all the stuff needed to ship the car to Houston for some upgrades.

Hope all goes well and maybe this one will not burn oil...

indyn 06-07-2011 12:07 PM

Westwood - which dealer was it.
I had a major warranty issue with TG Infiniti. It was a US car and was under full warranty, something happened while programming for a new key fob in their garage. They didn't admit it first that it was their fault but ended up getting a few new computer modules, and of course covered under warranty. But it took them about month and a half to get those modules from US since it was from there, different ecu's.

Anyways, always keep a steady front, consult with a lawyer and stay off the $20 hookers. :) maybe it was crabs running around the car that caused this. j/k

Question:

Was your engine in the VIN range for oil consumption? If so, it does explain the lack of oil. However, if your engine wasn't in the range, and you maintained it properly, meaning regular oil change intervals, and this problem still occurred, that's a concern..

BrandonT 06-11-2011 01:37 PM

What was the VIN range for OC? Just bought an '09.

My dealer didnt really say nothing about it, they just said... your getting a new engine :icon17: so ion really care but im hoping this never happens again. looks like the same oil consumption problem they had in 06.

Evil Sports 06-14-2011 07:51 PM

They can actually see how the car was driven up to the point of failure. This helps cover the dealers from people that beat cars and break something expecting that the warranty will pay for it.

I am pretty sure they can NOT see how it was driven... from what I understand there is no black box in this car...
