Hmm....I drained my factory fill into a brand new oil pan. I should send in a sample.

I still have mine sitting in an oil pan right now too (a well-used one though), mostly because I've been lazy about bottling it and getting it to a recycle place. I don't think oil that's been sitting in a pan for a while can be trusted for analysis though, it's had time for things to "settle out" before you scoop the sample, and it's been oxidizing and absorbing moisture from the air while it sits there too. Hence the oil analysis places always saying to seal up a sample of well-mixed hot oil immediately on drain.

you can change the interval notice by going into the menu. as far as changing at 4k I would think about switching to a synthetic like RP with a good filter like the RP synthetic and you could run 5k easily. It is really easy to change your own oil and it also ensures it is done correctly. I have heard horror stories about dealerships/oil change places using the incorrect oil or not changing the filter just to make the job go faster and save on overhead. It takes all of 15 min to change it yourself. Check the DIY section for what you need and pics of the change. And dont think I am a RP fan or sales man, i have just started using it for the past 10k and have been having good results with it first time with their filters but I plan to cut it open upon the next change.

Even if you don't change your own oil, I wouldn't worry about time as much as mileage (unless you let the car sit a long time).
I personally think the Esther oil is worthwhile, but I'm used to paying a lot for car maintenance

I always caution anyone who uses Royal Purple... I had heard a few engine builders (Evo motors) say they tore some engines down that were using it and that the oil was completely shot and not protecting the engine. It supposedly breaks down very quickly... but then again everyone will say something different and it might be fine.
