Anything over about 240 and you start to see the beginnings of viscosity breakdown, or thermal breakdown, or whatever the f you call it  . Heat is never good. |
One good thing that happened to mine and a few others, once it breaks in some and you get a few miles on it, in cooler weather it won't top out past about 230, even after spirited driving and traffic inhibiting airflow. Once we got out of all that extreme summer heat we get here for about two months, I was back to 220 cruising and 230 max. But I agree, I would feel better about oil breakdown and engine life, as well as better performance with a cooler
