Default I think my oil is running a little hot..

Hey Fellow Z34 Drivers,

My oil has been getting up to 230 during regular commute (no freeways).
My A/C is also off.

Note: in the past, I've only reached 220 on more aggressive driving.

I'm using Redline 5w30 Ester with a K & N Oil Filter.

Should i be worried?

How hot do your oils get during regular driving?

Not a problem until you hit 260? then it goes into limp mode. avg temp 210-230
if thats too warm? You have the option for a oil cooler to bring down the temps.
PLEASE use the advance google search.
There are many threads discussing this. Thank You

Turn on your AC and it'll run 10F cooler.

that 2nd fan/more powerful fan setting with AC brings it down a little. Also, 220-230 is fine. I'd be worried if you're at 260 all the time. Also, limp mode doesn't even kick in till 280 (or 290 I think). So, you're MORE THAN fine. Enjoy driving the Z

I'm going to reconsider my purchase if I have to worry about the car becoming a pumpkin every night.

I did my first oil change at 2000 miles and accidently put 10w 30 instead of 5w 30 (mobil 1). Dont know if that had anything to do with it but my temps stay around 10 degrees cooler now. May just be the thicker oil. IDK

I'd suggest getting the right viscosity. The engine was designed with a specific viscosity in mind. If you have issue's later on, and it goes in for maint? they may void your warranty for using the wrong thickness of oil. Thats if you take it to the dealer for reg maint.

That's air density. Oil temperature is a separate issue. Most oil are at their best in the low to mid 200F range.
