Yep, my bad.

According to the same inflation calculator:

"What cost $8500 in 1970 would cost $46443.30 in 2009."
"What cost $.28 in 1970 would cost $1.53 in 2009."
"What cost $1.85 in 1970 would cost $10.11 in 2009."

So Vettes, gas, and minimum wage are a worse deal today than in 1970.
