That is not pushing it at all.

the only cars with a AT that I see once in a while are the more expensive cars like say a 7 series BMW.

I once spend a hour looking at the cars passing past the place I was working, I had nothing to do do I spend my time like that.

I saw 3 ATs in that hour and those were 2 BMWs and one audi the rest were all MT and I am pretty sure I saw over 80 cars in that hour

We grow up with MT so it is natural for us to all drive MT

Leaving my car in gear is habit from years of cars with poor or failing hand brakes. Starting the car and putting it in neutral is natural.
First gear works so well that when my 300 ZX parked in first gear handbrake engaged, got hit by drunk driver at speed (60 MPH), my poor car left 30 solid feet of rubber, tracing its last movements on the street until the curb.

Back in the 350Z days, there were stories of the Z being in the middle of the street because it rolled down the driveway despite having the parking brake engaged. Then one day my buddy leaned on my 350Z, and it started moving. I thought he was crazy until he showed me, so that's pretty much the reason why I developed the habit of keeping it in gear even though people till this day question about it. My cousin, who has an '06 350Z, doesn't leave it in gear and wonders why I keep doing that.

Parking a manual in first or reverse is a no brainer. To do otherwise is just plain stupid.
