This. I think the manual tranny on the Z is garbage. Chatters, whines, throwout bearing roar, rubbery shifts, etc. I come from an s2k too and that thing was nirvana. There is a difference between the tranny being loud and shaky in a good way and loud and shaky in a bad way, and the z's manual is the latter. The auto however is excellent.
