Correct me if I'm wrong, but on the 370Z:

Triple cone synchronizers on 1st and 2nd
Double cone synchros on 3rd and 4th
Single synchro on 5th and 6th, hence they're way more likely to bite the dust than others.

6th, and later 5th grinded on my Z. Tranny replaced with a new (and IMMENSELY quieter) tranny.

Part of the grinding problem is associated with me shifting from 2nd gear directly to 5th or 6th gear on occasion (which I have done in EVERY other vehicle I've owned and never had problems). Either way...this one seems much better, quieter and best of all, no grinding.

Clunky??

Like the shifting FEEL or the clunking NOISE?? If it's the noise you're talking about, that is the differential mounts (which are made of rubber) which have too much slack. Polyurethane pumpkin mounts will help tremendously.

And just for the record, how in the hell can you compare a tC (FWD CABLE-CONTROLLED shifter) to the 370Z (RWD DIRECT shifter shaft with no cables involved). The feel is ENTIRELY different. At least on a Honda FWD, they still use a solid shaft to control the shifter (which helps tremendously with the feel as opposed to cables.)

Late,
Trav

You can have all the syncros you want, but it doesn't make it more smooth. Every time I put it in gear, I get this I am going to grind feel everytime. '

RX-8 are not cable controlled shifter, neither is the Miata. They are 100x better than the Nissan gearbox, even my 350 was better.

Coming from an s2k here as well and the tranny is sub par compared to the S. S2k honestly has one of the best transmissions ever made. Thing is buttah and very connected.

Pretaining to the whole 2nd to 5th shift I've noticed that SRM makes it weird, so you have to hold the clutch in a little longer than normal for the revs to get where they need to be otherwise you'll get a nice lurch.
