Exactly. You don't "Have" to as the ECU will re-learn over anywhere from 20-50 miles. By disconnecting, you dump the Long term fuel trims and start again at "0"
This shot shows Long term trims at a -3% (rich) correction. Typical 370 settings will show a Rich correction from there to -10%. Ideally you want to be at Zero, but that's hard to achieve without tuning, custom MAF tubes etc..
