Question

I thought that everyone who changed their oil did so at AK's place?

The dealer will most likely just give you the missing fastener.

Free is good within its own context. However, it may not considering:

1. How much time will it cost you to travel to the dealer to get the screw?
2. How much time will it cost you to jackup the car and install it.
3. Even if you let them install the screw you still have to wait.

Don't forget, what are the chances of them 'forgetting' to install a bolt or nut when you have them do major jobs?

Don't listen to me though. I have been 'disciplined/sermoned' for practicing "if you want it done right, do it yourself"

I guess they dropped it and couldn't be bothered to find it. Sad

they may not have torqued it down enough and backed out on its own.

after using my driver to screw those back i always go back with my small wrench and check the torque. has to be pretty snug, but not super tight.

Haha... I'm missing a few. It doesn't really matter, though.

Call the Service Department, speak to the Service Manager, tell them what you encountered and that you would like to have your fasteners back. Have it entered into your records there (they can easily do so) and when you return for your next oil change have them put back the missing fasteners.

I have done all my changes, I was missing one on my first change. I think it was that way from the factory.

I have to be missing at least 4 now... but it really doesn't matter. You don't need all of them.

The OP took his car in for a simple oil change. The mechanic should have replaced the same number of bolts as he took out. Maybe the OP asked for synthetic oil but because there is a "not so pride in workmanship" attitude, they put in dino. Hey, it's all API certified isn't it? So why worry about it, eh? Maybe they forgot to change the filter also. So, it raises a lot of other questions as to just what we are receiving for our money when we take our cars in for service albeit at a dealership or the indie. I have two free oil changes to take advantage of at my dealership. That won't happen for similar "not so pride in workmanship" attitude on my first two free oil changes. So, "I'll do it right the first time."

I have a "Lifetime" of free oil changes with my deal, but it's highly unlikely I'll ever visit the dealer for even one of them...
