370Z Factory LSD: This thing is worse than I remembered

come on pick up the factory manual, a tube of marking paint, match stamp the caps so you don't put the wrong one on the wrong side and do work.

On a new car most fit right away or are just a little off. you just assemble, torque, check with marking paint and if it doesn't run right in the middle of the pinion take the rear end in to a shop and have them shim it if you are lazy. My vote is quaife unlimted lifetime warranty and it doesn't require clutch changes.

Thanks! Ok I'm feeling a little more confident after finding this DIY for a 350Z Carbonetic which I imagine is identical.

The part that isn't clear to me is how you use the marking paint to ensure center alignment. Can you explain that part in a little more detail?

The problem with Quaife, etc. is that (I think) you have to cut up the stub shafts...that's a big selling point, to me, for the Nismo unit. It comes with new shafts.

I just purchased an LSD for my Base model Z. Does anyone know where I can get output shafts so I can install the LSD? Is there anything else I will need?

There is one LSD in particular that is designed for the Base that includes everything. You will have to talk to your vendor to see if they can source the shafts for you.

Which LSD did you get? If you'd like to email me the specifics I would be happy to help you out. sharif@forgedperformance.com

I have about 2500 miles on my OS Giken and I'm loving it. In ax the car hooks up like you can't believe. Pretty much goes unnoticed on the street with exception of real slow parking lot speeds doing sharp turns. It occasionally clicks when doing slow tight turns.

Boy this thread got brought back. But I'm going tomorrow to Forged to get my OS Giken installed. Boy I can't wait from all the things I've read. I've never owned a car with a more than sub-par LSD. Now with my suspension, brakes, and now this I'll be set for the twisties and track.

Let us know how you like it. I'm looking to upgrade my open diff, and having a hard time deciding what would be best for me.

I'm defiantly going to have a review. I'm so tired of a open diff. That's all I had on my 350 and it was FI also. Stupid mistake.I've learned some hard lessons from wreaking my last one.

But from my search the OSG is the way to go in every way. I'm also getting a tune tomorrow. I hope some more than average things can come from this.

I'm just curious, why do you think it's the clear choice over a Quaife? Especially now that the Quaife's are under a grand shipped.. it's hard to justify anything else for myself since it's a daily and I don't track my car much.

The Quaife has a very different feel to it. Some like it and some don't. For track use if you lift an inside wheel, such over some curbing or elevation changes the differential essentially becomes an open diff once again. Locking style LSD's provide uniform thrust potential from each tire, after corner entry once you come back to power. This not only inspires a lot of confidence but also allows the driver to come in power earlier than with an convention LSD or open differential.

All you shush about the GT-R...haha...I've actually been spending more time in the GT3, which also happens to have an OSG differential.

Good luck with the install. Let us know how it goes and how it feels.

I'm only basing this on what I've read and reviews. And it seem like it was just a step up from the others. The OSG had reviews such as smooth engagement and disengagement which it seem to be more predictable especially out of the exits. Also along with that is how highly recommendable it was from Forged after I choose this. They have been using the OSG on both there GTR with nothing but smiles. I also like the fact of the metal plates used inside the diff along with the lower maintence. I'll have a better personal review later this week. I'm here currently having it install.
