Default P0463 - how to fix or what to do

Well, I was do a SCCA Track Night and I used more fuel than I realized.
I had half a tank and got the famous Fuel Starvation problem, during my 3rd session. Well that ended the night.

Afterwards, cleaned up and ready to go home and engine light came on, range message almost out of fuel. Said I could not have used that much...

Well went down and put 10 gallons in and the tank was filled up. But the problem and the code has not gone away.

So I just need some education on what I need to do, to get it resolve. If the tank has to be dropped, might as well look at fuel starvation kit.

Thanks for the help.

I'd say the easiest and least intrusive thing you could do is clear the code now that you added fuel since the description of the code mentions that the PCM cannot determine how much fuel is in the tank and see if the CEL doesn't come back on. Also, since you added approximately 10 gallons of fuel, look at the fuel gauge to see if it reads where it should be based off of the ten gallons in the tank.

If CEL does come back on, it will be time to check the wiring to the pump, wiring connectors, inspect the pump itself, etc. You do not have to drop the tank to access the pump. Take out the panels directly behind the passenger seat to gain access.

Ya, clear the code and see if it comes back on. Prolly nothing wrong with the fuel sender.

If the fuel range reading is really screwy you may have a broken top hat. My pump assembly was broken and literally sitting on the bottom of the tank. Had to keep the tank 80% full to avoid starving it lol

No dropping the tank - you go at it from the top behind each seat. Factory assembly is on the passenger side. Then you can add another pump on the driver side. Get the CJM billet top hat also.

Thanks all for your input, and advise...

1) code has not gone away and car was topped off.
2) Need to feel it up again, thou I drove it about 250 miles and no problems, only but 2 gallons in it... will get a full tank later
3) planning on a trip to Cleveland OH, will be interesting

Good Help

The billet top hat is only for the OEM assembly (replaces the plastic top hat).

Whatever kit you get for the driver side should have what you need. I don't think phunk has the new v2 RRP kit out yet but you might just check with him to see if he has a timeline for it.

This guy has the Z1 kit for sale (I just bought some other parts from him so good seller to deal with)... Z1 fuel starvation kit

He's upgrading to the Radium surge kit (they copied Charles which is why he stopped producing his RRP kit).

Ok, just an update to this story, So I did get the Z1 fuel starvation kit

Had it installed today, with no problems (thanks fryzia23 they had no problems)

But also need to have the fuel pump replaced, seems It broke, and the fuel pump was laying in the tank. I am really amazed that it being in the shape I drove back from Atlanta. Then to and from Cleveland OH and did a track night.
(track night experience at Nelson Ledges coming soon)

The guys at the shop were amazed that I was able to do all of that.

Ah crap looks I’m too late. I was gonna say don’t bother with the z1 and just get the radium kit. The z1 was extremely noisy and becomes even worse when lower on fuel because the passenger side goes dry much sooner than the drivers. Also the stupid hook tube eventually fell out of the basket the two times I had to remove the fuel pump to drill out the jet. CJM said to wire a toggle to it and just turn it on at the track but by then I was over it and did the radium with AEM pumps and been extremely happy with it.
