Default Engine Swap info

I own a 2009 370z and was told I through a rod and need a replacement engine. I found one for $1,300 and was wondering if anyone knew a reliable shop in Charlotte NC that can put it in? Also any ideas on what to do with the old engine once it's removed? And lastly any pitfalls I should be conscious of having a used engine replacement. Thanks in advance.

The block is ruined but you should be able to salvage any parts that weren't mangled in the mishap. Ie, heads, manifolds, VVEL. Keep 'em or sell 'em.

SOHO is a shop near you in Monroe, NC. They do quality work. Not sure how good a motor you got for only $1300. Good low mileage ones normally go for $2000 to $2500.

I bought one of my spares for $1400. I had the seller do a video of a leakdown test and send over live results of each cylinder as we were messaging. I then did both compression and leakdown tests when I received the motor and all cylinders tested perfect. Its suppose to be a 30,000 mile motor but I have no way to verify that.

We are not so lucky on the East coast.

My motor came from Nebraska. I actually paid $900 for it. The rest was trucking fees.

Thanks everyone. I didn't pull the trigger on that motor. A mechanic I know didn't have good things to say about the company. I found JDM Engine in Charlotte which found the engine at JDM in Tenn for $2,200 w/50-55k mile but it's from Japan. Anyone have any insight on if JDM engines from Japan are a good look? Any experience with this company?

Unless it comes with a cluster it’s miles unknown, condition unknown. I’ve been down this path, a motor on a pallet is an unknown regardless of what a seller tells you. I had one “low miles JDM engine” turned out had oversized bearings in it. Had another with a cracked valve seat and scored bearings. Unless you blew a hole in your block you might be better off rebuilding what you have. Also with the age and availability of these engines I’d take a US market car that you can see “was running when it hit” over an engine with an unverifiable history.

Thanks Evildky, I found 2010 convertible hit in the rear engine still in the car with 81k I pulled the trigger on. I also bought a LUX dual mass flywheel and new clutch. Master and slave cylinders were upgraded prior to blown engine so I'm good there. But can anyone recommend anything else to replace while the engine is being swapped to avoid high cost of labor later on? Also my car a had a tune, does that need to be or should it be erased when engine is swapped out?

Thanks in advance!

Gallery gaskets (get EPS kit), thermostat, water pump are good preventative maintenance items
