Service Engine Light.......Replace Ignition Coils

My service engine light came on. Have 100,000 miles.......I went to AutoZone and these things are $115 a piece....If I take it to the dealer will they determine which one is bad? I could replace all 6. Looks like you have to remove a few things to even get to them and that would be almost $700 in parts. Ugh.

Given that you have some DTCs related to MAF, I'd try cleaning the MAFs first. Easy job, even for the inexperienced mechanic.

Agreed. Ignition coils do not all fail at once. When a coil fails, you will get a misfire in a specific cylinder.

It sounds like the MAF or the O2 sensors.

Thanks...what do I need to clean it with? If that does not work it's probably one of the sensors? I just replaced my overhead cam sensors a few months ago......before that the crankshaft position sensors.....damn sensors.

MAF sensor cleaner is sold in a spray can.

CRC MAF Cleaner is pretty universal. Any brand should be fine though. Wouldn't hurt to also grab some Throttle Body cleaner while you're at it

All you need is a screwdriver (or nut driver) and some MAF cleaner. With car off, unplug one of the MAFs, remove the two screws holding it in, remove MAF, spray with cleaner, let dry, replace MAF, and replace screws*. Repeat on the other side.

As per wanker and JARblue, the cleaner comes in a spray can. I like the CRC brand, also.

*Edit: Forgot to mention plugging the MAF back in. But if you need to be told that, maybe you shouldn't be working on cars.

I just cleaned the MAFs on my friend's Z a couple of weekends ago. He said his car runs WAYYYY better now.

I clean the MAFs and throttle bodies every 10k miles. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you.
