Default Shifter excessive shake & rattle question

I think my shifter shakes/wobbles too much

I first noticed this about a month ago when driving in 3rd gear at high RPMs (~5-6k), and my shifter would be quickly shaking ~1" side to side pretty aggressively IMO. I see a similar shake in other gears, but most noticeable in 3rd/4th/2nd.

I also notice (while not as bad) when I drive on bumpy roads/over potholes, the shifter would also wobble as the car goes hits the bump, even at ~30MPH/50KPH, and in any gear

Here's a video I took a video of my shifter issue to see what I'm talking about.

Also my shifter would sometimes make a squeaking noise when going into 5th during the winter. It seems random, and hasn't happened now that its warm again. I'm not sure if these are related.

Researching the forums tells me a shaky/wobbly shifter is not uncommon on the Z. However, I think this seems extreme for me. Does this seem normal or something of concern? Car is a 2016 base Z with ~15000miles/24000kms.

Default Shifter excessive shake & rattle question

I will admit that it does seem to shake a little more than mine but I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. Maybe someone else will chime in.

You can always opt for a heavier SS shift knob which helps attenuate the vibrations.

Hmm thanks!

Can anyone else comment on whether their Z does or does not do this lol?

Thinking of taking it to the dealer to inspect it.

Do you feel the vibration into the seat? Seams like a lot of road noise. You sure it's not vibration coming in from the road surface?

First, if you're going to take a video to show minor shaking, you might want to stabilize the camera properly next time.

Second, that looks completely normal to me. I can actually make the knob move noticeably forward and backward on demand. That's in addition to the side-to-side vibration from the drivetrain. And a 480 gram shift knob

I haven't driven a manual 370Z but the vibration in the video looks like almost every manual I have driven.

If it still bothers you, check drivetrain mounts, especially the transmission mounts.

At 5k in first, mine does not rattle nearly that much.

On idle, I do feel a slight periodic pulse in the bottom of my seat (and the shifter shakes slightly in sync with this pulse), but I assume this is just the engine. At speed, its hard to notice if its in my seat or not (but I'll say no). I tried again on a new freshly paved smooth road, and it still occurs (as well as on the highway). On a regular "suburbs" street (i.e. not downtown full of potholes), the shaking is more obvious.

I took another video from birds eye view.
I'm not sure if its related, but the rattle that occurs is just as concerning for me now (I assume this is definitely not normal!).

I am suffering from exactly the same problem and my 370Z has only 11,000 km on it.

I leave the video here.

In the official nissan workshop have changed the lever and the knob but the problem persists.

Please @free70, did you solve this problem? Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance

I suspect the shaking may be the end result of either the transmission mounts or the engine mounts. I do think it shakes a bit, but some movement is expected in any powerful manual car.

It's totally normal. I have poly motor, trans, and diff mounts.. and coolerworx shifter.. and the shifter noticeably moves on command.

If it bothers you that much, you could always get solid motor, trans, and diff mounts.

There are bolts and bushings in the linkage. I'm sure those can be checked/replaced.

But it is no about shaking per se but more about buzz/rattle. Sorry but maybe I did not give you a precise context. This car is from 2018 and I got it with 8K kms from one year ago. I always noticed a big lever shaking but not the buzz/rattle noise at all. It has recently appeared at high RPM specially in second and third gear when reducing from 6K to 5K. It must be said that nor have I driven the car aggressively or taken it to any track.

On the other hand, appart from this thread complaining about this issue, there are some finds which make me suspect this is a recognized and recurrent problem.

I am not an expert in cars and you probably now more than me but as the thread owner was saying, something does not fit me here...

Thank you very much for your help guys and I look forward to hear from you.

Initially the official nissan workshop wanted to replace everything in the linkage but it seemed me like too much considering it is an 11km car that is like brand new. So they replaced the following parts framed in red but as I told before the problem persists.

I assume for you commentary @ZoomZ that for you this buzz/rattle is an anomaly and you do not have it in your car.
