I'm guessing there's a long and storied history with the oil galley gasket failing if EPS is actually making a gasket set to replace OEM. I was aware of the pre-2012 issues with the gasket that fails under rear timing cover but not this one. Many documented cases of the rear gasket failing on the G37 forum.

Well it's ugly when it happens and honestly I'm glad it happened at the track where I had a lot of ready help around. This could have gone on the freeway and I would have been screwed.

Were the phillips heads hand tight? Eps told me that's an issue. They back out and the gasket blows out. They need safety wired!

I will.

Shame a damn gasket will do that much damage. :shakes head:
Oil pump gear still in one piece. The crank is still good. A little grinding on it will make it good as new. :icon14: Some JB Weld to fill in the hole on the block. And it will be good for another couple of trackdays. What you can do with the piston, rod, and pieces. Is to encase them in clear poly, and use it as a paper weight or bookend. |
...and magazine table from the block
...and hat from my ported intake plenum ...and cheese grater from my oil cooler core. ...and fish bedding from my shrapnel |
