Default Setrab oil cooler for Trans

Has anyone used the 19 row Setrab Oil cooler as a trans cooler?
I have seen several of these for sale used, was wondering if I could use it as a transmission cooler for my S.C build. I already have the Z1 34 row Setrab cooler for my Oil.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I have it, lol

It's evidently very overkill, but... Sue me

Default RE: Setrab oil cooler for Trans

I just ordered one for my 2014 7AT Touring Sport I am building up myself. Absolutely a good idea IMO if you have done HP and Torque increasing mods to the car. Both truly effect tranny stress and temps.
DEpointfive0 said he has one but overkill...... Lot's of people might agree, but then again, don't really look at a whole picture.

Overkill??.?.? - Not really when you take these following points into consideration...
Your location is AZ. I used to live in Scottsdale before transplanting back to DFW. (Texas). Both states have very harsh temperature ranges that effect vehicles. Both states have higher tranny and overheat issues then northern states would. If you have changed intake, exhaust or added any other mods that boost engine revs and temps or just give you the itch to bang on it more - then yes - cool the tranny down.

For your application a 34 row on oil system gets part of the engine's fluid cooling process done. The other is Tranny system fluid. By cooling these 2 systems, the engine temp itself drops down a bit. Verified this on previous vehicles modified in both states.
I myself don't see the need to change the radiator in mine just yet, (too dang new yet) but since you are in a warmer drier heat - consider the radiator as well if you haven't already. (you have 09 posted as your vehicle year)
As for the fluids - use high end specified viscosity oem rated/accepted fluids. STAY UP ON THEM!!!

Also since you have a 7AT - cooling the tranny fluid in a 19 row should really improve the shifts and keep the fluid from breaking down way to fast in the high southwest heat.

To give you an idea where I am coming from - I have elected on Lvl 10 torque conv and valve body upgrades and adding the 19 row cooler. This allows for the other upgrades done and upcoming on this 14' 7AT of mine, to not heat/burn up oil and tranny so fast.
Intake / Manifold / Exhaust / Tune. Double dynamating and deadening of the car - added more weight. More strain on the tranny. Higher temps.

Since mine is arriving tomorrow I haven't mounted yet. But this weekend I will look into the front end and see if I can mount it sideways. I think you were thinking the same thing when I started mentally designing the car add ons. IMO it would be best to go sideways with the in port on top and out port on bottom.
My Oil cooler is on the drivers side and both lines are on the top. The in flow was routed to the outer most port and the out flow was routed from the center most port.

The trans cooler I was thinking kind of center to passenger side with hose ports pointed towards the passenger side. The cooler I have is a smidge smaller then most 19 row units I've seen. It should fit nicely between horn and PS cooler.

Sweet Looking front end!! Is that the Z1 Intake with the high flow filter upgrade??? Looks awfully familiar to the parts I received this week!!! I went with the Z1 with black silicone 90 elbows since I am using neon green thermal socks on them. The manifold pipes will be double wrapped in gold thermal shield. I still might thermal sock the entire intake. That's why I went with Z1. Cheaper then others and would be covered up mostly anyway. Still on the fence about adding vent ports to the apron. But I am leaning towards them to add more air flow over the tops of the coolers.

yep; it's Z1 filter upgrade...cast 6"diameter bases are a bit heavy,,,couldn't let them lay on the crash bar-so a made a bracket that sandwich's between it & the coupler.
A little aluminum sheet metal for air guide/ Fangs are blocked off;all air has to pass below crash bar & up to the high pressure spot where the filter's are....all foam still in place.
