Why does this happen only in first? My only experience is with much older clutches (manual linkage, throwout bearing, &c) and I can't think of a reason the clunking would

Why does this happen only in first? My only experience is with much older clutches (manual linkage, throwout bearing, &c) and I can't think of a reason the clunking would only happen in a certain gear.

My car does that also and it is usually at low speed with the throttle off.

hmmmmm That would lead me to believe that there is too much "slack" or "windup" somewhere - eg, engine/trans mounts. Might be fixable. YMMV
