I say drive a few thousand miles first before you try to be a racer. You need to be able to just shift wot thinking before you can do it fast. Do it wrong and bye bye Trans or engine from over Rev.

Get to where you can shift smoothly slowly, then start working on doing it faster.

walk before you run... the engagement is high and narrow on these cars with lots of dead space below the friction point. Don't stomp it to the floor and fling it back up thru the dead space or you will jerk badly. Use most of the dead space when you are learning in normal driving so you don't slip the clutch too much and burn your clutch out. You need to learn where the friction point is and not go too far past it when shifting aggressively. The timing has to be perfect at high rpm so you don't burn your clutch out. Pulling into the next gear with your hand and changing pedal direction at the friction point need to be synced well (within fractions of a second). Have patience and don't rush things... the 1-2 shift is the hardest to master and in normal driving you need to slip a little slower and let the rpm drop. With the clutch in try hesitating a half a second longer before you let the clutch out when doing the 1-2 at normal speeds.

99% of the time the transmission will be fine, it's really only the csc and mc that you need to worry about
