i didn't really know how to describe it, but someone else called it that and it stuck, haha. We were commenting on the idle sound from 1slowz's super NA build that had jun cams, a dry sump, custom manifold and other stuff.
|
The term is "cam lope" used by old-school engine builders to describe the characteristic variation in sound of an idling engine with big lift and significant overlap cam timing.
Mr Google .......... Cam “lope” is caused by the overlap when the exhaust valve is opening and the intake valve is closing. The more of an overlap, the longer and lower the sound of the “lope” will be. This is usually a result of a longer exhaust duration. |

so how do the final drive gears skew dyno numbers? I have 4.08s

I believe my runs were done in 5th because of the gears. Are cars usually run in 4th?
|
Runs are usually in the gear that is closest to 1:1.
|
5th is 1:1 with the 3.69 Final drive (stock 6MT)
|
I thought 4th is 1:1 (3.69)5th would read higher mumbers.

Weird, guess different tuners dyno different. Ive ashtrays heard 4th.

Any update from ban25?

General impressions so far: the idle is a little rough, but honestly not bad at all. It has an aggressive character that, combined with the LTHs and Bassani exaust produce a very nice tone. The car has lots of torque, we had to reduce the throttle mapping a bit in 1st and 2nd to make it more manageable. Here's a first drive video: I'm looking at 9/5 for the first track day, at Laguna Seca. |
Sounds good. I wonder what it sounds like in the 7K RPM range. Guess we will have to wait and see after the break in process.
|
I'll actually be in SF this weekend, wonder if the wife would be annoyed dif I tried to meet up to hear how idling sounds, haha.
|
Amy new updates with dynod or videos with idling sound?

Track Vid: In-Car: After fixing the tone ring, I gained power and torque (go figure, lol). Right now it's sitting at ~335 hp and 290 tq on 91 octane. I'll do one more track day and then get it tuned for 101 octane. Will post up dyno graphs when I do. Should be mid December. |
Oh, I forgot to add...once we fixed the timing problem, the idle became super smooth...way better than stock, in fact! You can hear a little chatter in the video above, but that's from the OSG clutch.
|
290 is a good amount if trq. Do you have a baseline with tbe lths etc, but no cams?

Bet you can feel that torque coming out of a corner. :driving:

The CJM fuel system works like a champ too...no problem accelerating out of a hard right turn anymore, even with a quarter tank of gas. |
Any chance were going to see the S2 cams soon?

Im not going to make any promises be we are working our hardest to make it happen as soon as we can. |
any updates?

Still haven't been on the dyno. I have two track days coming up (2nd on Feb 4th), so I'll try to get some dyno time after that.
|
Stage 2 cams?

I keep checking this thread for more updates. This is about as I formative as I can find and still so many questions!
|
Just had the car tuned and dynoed on my Laguna exhaust, which is effectively a stock Nismo exhaust. I'm at 325 rwhp with this exhaust on 91 octane. Going to get retuned with the Bassani exhaust after a Laguna track day on Feb 20th. I'll post curves then, if not sooner!
|
I just bought these to go with my whipple build..very excited to see how it works out
|
Seems like a few more of us stepping in the water
|
The S1 cams aren't really aggressive enouh to justify it for me personally. I might pick up the s2 cams if I can find someone I would trust opeNing a vq in the las vegas area
|
The cams I have, at least what the seller told me are 280 duration and 11.5 lift with supertech valve springs, but I haven't seen the paperwork nor the heads yet. Ill be home in a few weeks and pick them up in about a month.
|
take the drive to Specialty Z..
Seb has done all the work on my car.. and when i do my engine build he will be doing that as well Quote:

JWT Is still working on the C2 cams at this time, there where some designs that did not measure out to what they where looking for so it has gone through a few renditions. We are very close to having this whole thing completed hopefully. The C1s are still going strong though in all of the cars we have sold to/installed.

Have you installed them on any cars that already have CAI, headers and exhaust? Interested to see what gains they got on top of those mods.
