Clutch pilot bearing or something else?

Hey everyone, long time member here just recently got back into a Z, it's a high mileage one with over 100,000 on the clock so i was expecting to have

Default Clutch pilot bearing or something else?

Hey everyone, long time member here just recently got back into a Z, it's a high mileage one with over 100,000 on the clock so i was expecting to have to go through all the systems and get everything back up to spec. Anyways, what I'm wondering about is that I've been having a squeal coming from the transmission since i got the car and i believe I've traced it down to the pilot bearing, but would like some input from others on what else i should be checking for as I'm going to be taking it into the shop to have the clutch and flywheel changed out as well as the csc and master cylinder as i am going to be upgrading to the zspeed csc. Thanks for any input that can be provided and look forward to your responses

Is it just when you push the pedal? Does it go away after you've driven it for a while?

Really, if your changing out everything, it shouldn't matter...it will get fixed.

Yes only when i press the clutch pedal and does go away after warming up. There is another symptom im wondering about though and was wondering if it would be related to the pilot bearing, when I'm accelerating there is a whine coming from the transmission and gets louder the higher in the rpm range i go, any thoughts on that?

Sounds like a pilot bearing issue. The thing is, if you are going in to do that then you should go ahead and do the clutch, pressure plate, CSC, CMC, and flywheel.

They are noisy trannys, but it's normally more of a rattling sound...since your going to have the tranny out you could have it gone through at the same time...

I know a few people on here have had gears replaced...if a gear is worn it will whine, you may have a gear or two that are worn...or depending on how they maintained the car you might need a fluid change, which I would do when buying used. First thing I do with any used car I buy or friends buy is change all the fluid, you never know what the previous owner did or didn't do...best to start fresh.

Did exactly what you described as far as put in new fluid, i have a feeling the previous owner wore out gears as there was a leak that looked like it had been going for a while from the rear tranny seal. I replaced the seal and drained and refilled with fresh redline but still whines. Fortunately got an extended warranty from dealer so if transmission does need replacing it will be done on their dime

Just listened again. I got it backwards - not the throwout bearing (sorry bout that). It whines the 1st 2 revs (clutch out, transmission spinning), quieter with the pedal pressed (trans. not turning). That indicates something in the trans. (bearing or gear?) when the input shaft is spinning.
Also, the pilot bearing and tranny shaft would not be spinning relative to each other with the clutch pedal released (up, not pressed) so I would say the pilot bearing would not be the cause. These are usually just a bronze sleeve anyway (no noise).

So what do you think? Maybe the output shaft bearing, i know i had to replace the rear tranny seal as it had been leaking for what looks like quite a while based on the amount of fluid that came out of the tranny when i drained it (about a quart and a half came out) so maybe the output shaft bearing wasnt being properly lubricated leading it to start wearing down? Just trying to get a list of things together for the mechanic to take a look at.
