Default Having to replace clutch with only 17500 miles :/

Hello,
I wanted to ask the forum about my clutch issue. I have a 2014 Nismo with 17500 miles on her. I noticed my clutch was slipping . Took the Z to dealer and was told the clutch was worn and needed to be replaced. I don't ride the Z hard and I don't ride the clutch. For the clutch to need to be replaced seems odd to me. They quoted me 1952.00 to replace the clutch or 3000.00 if I also needed a new fly wheel . If I put the Z in 3rd and let go of the clutch it stalls . I don't think the clutch could be that bad that it needs all this work . Looking for your guys opinion.

Thanks

It's hard to believe that you need a new clutch at such low mileage and how you say it has been driven. If you put the trans in a high gear such as 4th, 5th, or 6th, and floor it, does the engine rev faster than the car accelerates? That would be a slipping clutch and a sign that it is time to replace. Another problem could be oil on the clutch disc from a leaky slave cylinder. How does the bell housing look? Any oil leaking in there?

If I floor it in 4th gear the car takes off with no problem. It only seems like it happens in 1st and 2nd gear. I did not see any leaks and the fluids are full. I think the dealer is trying to rip me off. All service tech did was take the car for a drive and said the clutch was bad when he came back.

That doesn't sound right. First and second will mostly be fine. If a clutch is slipping it will be in the high gears first. Floor it in 5th and 6th. If it revs up and does not gain speed, then your clutch it toast. If not, then it is OK.

Can you describe what it does that makes you think it's the clutch?

Sounds fishy. Did they visually inspect the clutch?

Curious how you came to this conclusion? That is way too early for a clutch to be needing replacing. Like others have stated, slipping usually starts off happening in the higher gears. So if you floor it at a low RPM in 5th or 6th, the revs should go up but the car shouldn't really accelerate.

I'd get a 2nd opinion before you shell out $3k to replace something.

I'd also seriously consider an aftermarket clutch/flywheel/HD CSC if you end up replacing the clutch. You can get that for $1,000-1,200 and labor on a clutch shouldn't be more than 5-6hrs of shop labor. You can save at least a grand and maybe even get it for half of what the dealer is quoting you.

They did not take apart the clutch. They took it for a ride and came back and told me the same thing I told them. The clutch is slipping .

Just got off the phone with Nissan USA and they told me that the clutch was NOT covered under warranty at any mileage and they are sorry that my car needs a new one. I will spend the 2000.00 and get me a non OEM clutch and be done with it . Just wanted to share my story. Hope no one has to have this happen to them .

Im trying to look at this as a postive. Now I can get a real nice clutch and the wife wont get mad for me modding the Z .
The stock ones are a POS anyways.

Have a appointment at TF Works in Chicago to have the new one put in. Might sneak in a ARK Grip exhaust. The little lady will never know

PS: The 20000 mile service cost me 410.00 at the dealer. NEVER AGAIN !

TF Works quoted me 1500.00 out the door for a clutch kit . This is the last time the dealer sees this car.

Make sure that price includes either the ZSpeed HD CSC or Z1 CSC Elimination kit or you'll be dropping that tranny again when the CSC goes out. Three hundred extra bucks and you'll never have the CSC issue again

The only thing I take my car to the shop for is an oil change (just to have a running record of it in case I decide to sell)...everything else I do myself or take it to shops that aren't dealers
