Default 370 rear fog light hook up

I put in the rear fig light and I just want it to be on with the tail lights no brakes. So I decided to tap into the license plate lights. But it's really bright and is hot. I hooked it up in parallel to the plate lights, does it need to be in series? And I have a 7440 bulb in there idk if it needs to be different. If anybody has any info on this please let me know. Thanks!

Incandescent lamps run hot by nature (they incandesce, heehee). You can get a lower wattage bulb or put a current-limiting resistor in series with the fog lamp.
