When the DRLs are on, most FM signals are drowned out by static. When the DRLs are off (i.e., headlights on), the radio plays fine. What shielding or additional grounding will fix this?

Is the noise of a constant frequency or does it vary with engine speed? If it varies with engine speed, that would lead me to believe that your wiring is picking up interference from the alternator/charging circuit. Re-routing the wires and/or moving the control module may help.

Unhappy

Thanks for the thought, bro, but the noise is white-noise static, and neither its volume nor frequency varies with engine speed. Any other ideas gratefully accepted, although I'll try moving the control module anyway. The control module in under the bonnet, whilst the radio antenna is out back of course, so I don't see the connection, but at this point I'll try anything reasonable.

Then I'll guess that it is noise generated by the control module. If the module is not sending full power to the running lights, it is probably using some form of PWM which can be quite noisy. I'm guessing that the wiring running to the rear lights is close enough to the antenna to cause problems. The only solution I can think of is the shield the wiring.

But I haven't seen a schematic or wiring diagram for your lights, so take the above with a grain of salt. I'm just making a SWAG.

Whoa! I'm just guessing. Get some confirmation before tearing anything apart.
