DIY: Weight reduction/Fix hatch not opening issue

I searched on my '12 touring and didn't find any weight.

nice find, now i can fix my 2011 Z hatch issue(it doesnt pop open)

I found out what was rattling, the rubber/plastic backing on the carpet was rattling against the sub grill/cover

Less than a week ago, I had my 2011 hatch stick for the first time ever. I'm going to do this tonight

This mod was so easy I did it in three stages while cooking hamburgers on the grill. Unfortunately, it was to no avail. I got the hatch panel off only to discover, like luigi, I had no weight to remove

Dammit... Sorry about that... I guess the cutoff is 2010?

Maybe since they released the TSB on the hatch not opening?

Something like that... I know I have one of the early model 2011 since it still had a steering lock (fuse has since been removed).

We have the occasional sticking hatch and removing the weight looked like it might help the problem. I followed the excellent instructions but, guess what, no weight bolted to the lid.
Ours is the Touring model and I think (not certain) that the dealer's mechanic that installed the spoiler was clever enough to remove the weight.
I did go ahead and add some washers to the springs and that has alleviated the problem.

There is dead weight all over the Z!

This hatch weight has been on the Previous model Z since 03!

Great write up !! This took me about 15 minutes as well and solved my hatch issues

. All this time fumbling with things trying to open my hatch because of a 2 1/2lb weight. lol

Ditto. I'll agree with the OP; this is very easy and you'd be a fool to pay someone to do this. Thanks for the write up!
