Had a place try to do vinyl on my PW, wasn't gonna work out so he is having a guy come in to do a flat black paint job. Figured the guy paints cars he should do a better job, I seem to have no luck painting ever! Plus $150 isn't a bad price. Scheduled for the 25th so I'll put pics up after :)

Could you use 2000 grit ultra fine sand paper instead of the brito pad?

yes yes u can even use 1500 grit if u like ull be fine.. the brito pad is actually equivalent to 1500 grit so ull be good... 2000 will take u a long time.... its like sanding with printing paper.... :shakes head:

ishthemienguy 08-15-2009 05:56 AM

man!...just damn...very sexy.

jookiyaya 08-17-2009 04:38 PM

Well my dumbass sprayed too close and it ran. I let it dry and tried sanding of that spot. Needless to say it was a pain in the ***. Also the lines at the end are choppy. I tried my best to neatly tape off the ends but it wasn't good enough. From a distance it looks ok but once you come in close and you can see my shoddy work. I'm debating if I should just strip it and start over or just have a body shop do it. Simota how were you able to get the lines so neat? I'll take pics during lunch and post them up.

Zeto 08-20-2009 01:39 PM

Here are the pics, sorry for being late

I have to do some more detailed to pics to show the blemishes. Also using the satin clear coat I got more of a gloss black than a flat black.

jookiyaya 08-20-2009 02:14 PM

you know, judging from the pictures, thats not bad at all.

are you going to do the back blackout near the exhaust pipes as well?

Yes I am but after this experience I think I'll leave that to a body shop.

JB1 08-20-2009 09:35 PM

I did mine this weekend and it didn't go too smoothly... I used flat black and a matte
clearcoat. For some reason the clearcoat got messed up, it turned white... So I sanded the clearcoat off and did 2 more coats of the flat black, no clearcoat. I am planning on getting a clearbra anyway, so I figured I can do without the clearcoat. In the end it looked fine, only problem were the lines on the left and right of the fangs, they were not straight! I really did my best neatly taping, but just like Zeto, not good enough. But I solved the problem today, I bought a set of fine brushes and sort of pin striped the ends, it turned out quite nice. I took before and after pictures, which I'll post tomorrow. So Zeto, I'd say try the pinstripe trick, it worked for me.
I'll do my rear bumper (the part around the tailpipes) this weekend, but instead of painting, I'll use vinyl, I ordered the vinyl overlay from Bluebat (vendor on this forum).

Thanks for the advice! I rep'ed you up! What kind of paint did you use for the pinstripe? Do you have the link for the vinyl vendor?

No problem, I hope my little bit of advice is helpfull. I used the left over spray paint, just sprayed a litle in a cup. The spay paint I used is Rust-Oleum "Universal" The brushes I used are simple hobby brushes from the WallMart arts and crafts section :)

Here is the link to the vendor for the Vinyl overlays:
BLUEBATMOBILE.net - Nissan 370Z Forum

I should be able to get these on the car tonight. I will post pics this weekend.

And here are the before and after pics and the brushes I used:

Zeto 08-21-2009 11:56 AM

Very nice JB1

simota1 08-23-2009 04:17 AM

SOrry guys... :shakes head: i havent been subscribing recently on the forum... this month sucks... anyways... i got the line pretty neat spraying thin coats and when i peeled the tape away... i peeled it away from the line instead of jus upward... and JB1... the clear coat turned white cuz it was probably cold or.. was shot to thick... it happened to me the first time when i did my fangs... so yah ull be good with the clear bra though

JB1, I can't seem to find the link for the vinyl overlay. Is there some where I'm not looking?

Try this email address. They guy doesn't have an online store, just email him and he'll give you instructions on how to order. A bit weird, but it worked for me.

mailto:bluebatmobile@san.rr.com

I put the overlays on yesterday, but i'm not 100% happy. To the left and right of the " fog light" the overlay didn't cover completely, so I'll email bleu bat to get some feedback.

JB1 08-23-2009 04:17 PM

Simota, thanks for the diy! Did my fangs last week. As you can see in a previous post, I had some problems getting some edges straight, but in the end it all worked out fine. Your DIY was very helpfull!

Zeto 08-23-2009 09:10 PM

Hey guys I redid the fangs and they came out great! I used the brush like you said JB1 and it worked like a charm. Simota thank you for the DIY! I sanded it down and I also borrowed some nail polish remover from my mom  I actually put about 4-5 coats of the acrylic lacquer. I didn't use the clear at all. Let's see how long it lasts.

JB1 08-23-2009 10:06 PM

I'll post pics tomorrow from a PC, I'm on my iPhone now.

I'm glad you were able to fix the fangs! Did you get the special WalMart brushes? :)

blue660r01 08-23-2009 10:11 PM

simota1 08-24-2009 04:21 AM

Pics are attached below. As you can see it's not far off, but just enough to create 2 "fangs" on either side of the fog light cove thing. So I got rid of the front fangs, but added rear fangs, how about that...

BTW sorry Simota for taking over your thread :)

I see what you mean. It doesn't look bad at all though.

JB1 08-24-2009 02:46 PM

Yeah, its "not bad". But not bad is not not good enough for me :). The rest of the fitment is really good so to me this really stands out. It just bugs me a bit, that's all

simota1 08-24-2009 04:34 PM
