I am soda blasting Mr&Mrs shrouds. Some of the chrome reacted with the paint and caused a mess. The soda takes it all off with out damaging the shrouds.

Unfortunately, I don't think we're related since Fortune is just the name of the body kit on my other car. I don't have a seam on the shroud to hide. I epoxyed the lens directly to the blinker housing. So for the shroud I just:

1. Cut off the stock lens
2. Used a dremel to take a bit more out of the inside
3. Took a hole saw and put some sand paper around it and then just spun it around in the hole by hand to give it a good clean circle and remove the high spots from the dremel
4. Painted the whole shroud

For the lens, I put a thin line of epoxy on the very top of the housing. Then very carefully lined up and lowered the lens onto the housing. Then proceeded to epoxy the side of the lens and the housing. There is a very high possibility of screwing this part up and getting epoxy on the inside of the lens. If I had more time, I'd say fabbing up a little metal cover that secures the lens to the housing would be the ideal solution.

I'm glad I went with the RGB leds, and I got a cheap little controller for them to select the color, etc. They are a royal pain to solder though. I'll get some video once I install the controller.

It's raining now, so we'll see how well my headlights are sealed. If I had to do it over, I'd say a ton of little c-clamps would make resealing the headlights a breeze with a heat gun.

Luner-Eclipse stopped by today and got his lights freshened up. Great color combo; Satin Black w/Color Match Paint from AutomtiveTouchUp 40th Edition Paint Code. I love doing lights for real Z owners. Drives it every day, cool guy, beautiful car. For once, NO LED's....

Hey fellas as I do lights from other makes and models I keep the info on what I used. So if your interested in doing yours or a friends let me know I'll give you what I know. Of course its all at your own risk (Disclaimer). I am no wiring genius I just look for the parking light harness or wire a switch.

Still trying to find the XB style halo's for the BMW's and Lexus. They don't use a circle they have 1/2 moon & Lexus is oblong. Don't like the quality of the kits out there so if anyone has a lead on an RGB or XB style halo in those shapes please share.

Thanks :happydance:

I just wanna say how I am grateful to Joe and Kelly, the coolest tandem ever that could ever work for your car. Was there day and it was one the coolest day ever and productive. I had my headlights done. They also helped me out install my Gen 3 and rear camber kit. It was a 100% satisfaction guarantee!! Looking forward to go back there for the next project..

Here it is.. I love them!!

For you guys using the morimoto angel eyes, are you using a cover for them and of so what kind and size?

I have the 90mm for the front projectors and am having them wired into the DRL.

Thanks in advance!

Nut_N_Much 10-07-2013 07:43 PM

No covers needed with XB's. They are sealed with resin already. Some Halos (RGB Type) are made up of lots of little squares. They need the housing to help focus the light and protect them from the elements. XB's don't need them, only thing I wish would change on the XB's is the color. That yellow/green tint from the LEDs I wish was white. Some colored halos with RGB leds come sealed in resin and don't need casings, there called COB Angle eyes from superbritght.

Gracias!

Done, dual halo with dual demon eye in blue. Used 4 up top and added 1 to the main projector to make 5 on it. Still dim, 10mm leds are huge but might try it on my lights first, don't want to F up some one else lights. Just need to make it brighter on the main projector.

Tip I came up with that I figured I might pass along to folks doing these themselves who worry about condensation:

Buy this stuff:
Amazon.com: Rust Oleum 274232 Never Wet Multi Purpose Kit: Home Improvement

Now buy this stuff for good measure:
Sonax 223100 Black Polymer Net Shield : Amazon.com : Automotive

My lights have been opened about 4 times now and have pretty significant heat warping along the seams. After you re-seal the lights with butyl, apply 2 coats of "never wet" (drying in between coats) along the seams of the lights. Once dry, apply a coat of the polymer net shield. Drove around a bit in the monsoon we had in DC last week and both lights are dry as a bone.

RGB LED Controller installed. The included app for Android works well for selecting the color, but selecting the mode didn't work so well. The included remote works well though. It has several modes where you can select the color and brightness, have it blink in and out, or cycle the colors and select the speed at which it cycles.

Another thing to note... 4 leds for the smaller halo and set to white apparently gets a bit warm and did bubble the krylon fusion a bit. So that's something to watch out for. I imagine a traditional automotive clear (not from a rattle can) should hold up to heat a little better.

Nut_N_Much 10-23-2013 07:49 PM

Yep, paint will bubble on a lens conversion, RGB type halo's do get hot. Also swapping out dual fulfillment amber turn signal bulbs with LED will help keep heat down.

I used automotive clear coat on my shrouds and still bubbled. Swapped out halo's for white XB's seem to solve my issue but no color choices with XB's. :tiphat:

Lights look great...

Hey guys, i am want to do this lets say KICK *** mod and just wondering if you could please make a NEW post about all the items needed. I'm keen to do as much to the headlights as possible as i don't really want to re-open the headlights to keep doing mods to them. so if you could please let me/us know all the up-to-date relevant parts that we would need that would be awesome :)

thanks so much for this thread its AWESOMEE!!!!....

Hey guys.....just a heads up. The lenses from the rhetrofitstore are on back order right now. I ordered them last week and quickly got an email from them on the situation. No word from them though as to when they come back in stock yet.

equalme 11-25-2013 11:50 PM

Quick question-

I pretty much leave my lights on 'Auto' and prefer to keep it that way. So if I were to wire the halo to the parking lights, then the halo won't turn on until it is dark enough and the headlights automatically turns on, correct?

I want the halo to be on when I start the car and stay on. I'd hate to have to run a wire to a switch in the cabin. What are my options?

Also, does anybody have a picture of the halo on with the low beams on as well?

Thanks!

VDC_OFF 11-25-2013 11:55 PM

what I usually do is run the wires out of the headlights. Find a ground to connect the black wires and run the power up to the battery and into the passenger side by cutting a slit into the rubber wire cover. Under the dash is cigarette lighter, you can tap into that yellow wire using a plastic wire tap connector from autozone. This should now allow your lights to turn on when the car turns on.

Nut_N_Much 12-01-2013 11:54 AM

New project:
I have a set of XB's and a set of Blue colored COB's (RGB type LEDS). I am going to try to mount them both. I'll wire the white XB's to run as daytime lights and the Blue COB's I'll run to a switch in the cab.

I'll post details when I get them done. Not sure how it will come out but at least its something different. I'll also add dual demon eyes to go with the upgrade to my own car.

That sounds sick! I've got mine all mocked up and going to paint this week. Having my body shop custom paint then. I'm doing dual halos and demon eyes. Can't figure out where to mount the demon eye led yet though. LMK if you have any thoughts. I got a multiple color led for the demon eyes and a remote. Hoping to not run a switch in the car but just rig it up to the remote. Here's a little mock up pichttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/02/evybaryz.jpg

Meulen 12-02-2013 09:27 AM

I've searched around and can't find an answer....

Doing the demon eyes, does anyone have pictures on where to put the led's and how many they put in?

I'm using a multi color RGB LED if that helps

Nut_N_Much 12-02-2013 01:41 PM

Friend me, I have a photo album.

Main Projector I recommend using 6 or more LEDs. Image below..
http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...1-img-1061.jpg

Looking for the Turn Signal demon eye pic i have. I used 4 LEDs on that one and it was 2 bright I would use 2 or 3 LEDs. :tiphat: Here it is.. Sorry, the image uploader doesn't resize it anymore, gotta do it manually.

Looks great man.. Make sure you swap out your stock turn signal bulb for an led bulb. The heat off the stock dual filament bulb will heat the lens up and bubble your paint. An LED turn signal bulb will be cooler and help with heat saturation. :tiphat:

Example: 2X 7443 7440 992 15 LED Turn Signal Parking Light Rear Lamp Bulb T20 7441 Amber | eBay

Now you tell us :icon17:
I went with 4 RGB's in each. 4 leds in the turn signal halo are WAAAAY too much lol. (melt my paint bright) Also the amount of wiring that is required for the RGB leds is a lot higher than the regular LEDs. I should have moved one or two to the main projector.

Since you're going with the RGBs, I take it you're either going to do your own soldering or have someone to do it for you. That was a PITA soldering those tiny resistors. I went ahead and color coded the wires for my RGBs to keep things straight when plugging it into the controller.

Nut_N_Much 12-02-2013 04:16 PM

Good point, If he bought the 5mm RGB LEDs 12v w/Resistors that come pre-wired he is good, if not than yep it's PITA. The COB RGB (Halos, Angle Eyes, Orbs) come with 12v resistors already. The LEDs pop up on Ebay from time to time 12v with resistors.. Luck of the draw on what color they have.

Robs lights had 4 RGB LED's on his main projector and they weren't bright enough for that big lens. Osiris and I were talking about this Ultra Blue Devil Demon Eyes LED Strips Module for Projector Headlights Retrofit | eBay as a possible solution. It can be mounted closer to the main projection lens. The problem is the projector were you drill and mount the LEDs is almost 6 inches away from the lens. This little thing can slide under the housing just above the lens. Trying to do mine to see if it works good enough to recommend.
