Why the voltage gauge?

Honest answer... 50% stupid, 50% I have no idea. :icon14:

Just want to stash it away in the cubby. I'm weird and care about voltages every once in a while. Edit: It was like $70 or so at the time, so I figured why the hell not.

I haven't tested my theory yet, but I believe you can pull the gauge cluster through the area where the cubby sits.
I think you might be able to use a right angle screwdriver and remove the 4 screws to pull it.
I may be completely wrong, but after seeing the inside of a removed dashboard, I'm hoping that I'm right.

I had not to long ago did a whole dash removal to do this gauge swap and sadly I wish your way was possible but the air ducts are in the way of the screws, there's only three that hold our gauges to the dash, but the whole thing has to come out if you want to keep from vice gripping and shredding the oem gauges. it's not to bad with the factory service manual online I did it in about day and a half one to pull the dash and the rest to dremel and fit the gauges up properly, I was able to use the oem bracket to fasten the hats back on ill have to post up a thread and pictures of it soon.

Dash removal to access the oem gauge pods

http://www.the370z.com/members/mclov...gauge-swap.jpg

Went with the Defi advance series

http://www.the370z.com/members/mclov...k-test-fit.jpg

pretty much the final fit, i have a lot more pictures and info if anyone is curious, on my install. I didn't have to use any hardware to hold the gauges n, i was able to reuse the oem parts to make the gauges easy to swap out if need be while the dash is in, making it super convenient and clean.

Hi all. First off, thanks for the guide. It really helped me out.

If like me, you only want to get the silver bezels off so you can paint them, here's how I did it without making a special tool. Just lift up the hood from the front as much as you can and get a very small flat head screw driver into the gap on one side. Use this to lever the hood outwards and gently pull up, it will take a bit of leverage but will eventually pop upwards. Then for the bezels, the guages clip together in several stages. The first is the bezel and the second is the front cover. Get the top two clips undone on the cover and gently pull it forward, there is another clip on the bottom that's impossible to get to, so don't break this. Levering the cover forwards will allow you to get your small flat head down to the two clips at the bottom that hold the bezel on, get these undone, then undo the top one and you're home free!

I managed to do this for the first time today without breaking anything. It's a pain but if you take your time, it's not awful.

I'm going to be picking up the Defi advance. I have two questions:

Where did you mount the control unit for the Defi?

AND

Do you really have to remove the steering wheel to take the dash off?

Test fitting my VEI gauges. No sensors connected yet. Does anyone know if the OEM wiring harness for the stock triple gauges contains a wire from the headlight switch / circuit? If not, what did you connect to for the gauge dimming feature (gauges dim when headlights are on)?

I bought a spare triple meter on eBay to play with, but I don't have the harness yet. I remember someone in a different thread saying that they could not get dimming working from any of the hard lines into the harness, implying that it's dimmed from a CAN message (probably related to the headlight status)

So i found a wire in the largest of the four connectors that go into the audio head unit that controls dimming. This wire carries 0v if the headlights are off & 12v if they are on. It's the one circled in the attached picture. It's a red wire. This is for a 2014 w/ Bose but w/out nav. I test connected this to the dimming wire on my VEI gauges & it works perfectly.

im thinking of removing my dash completely
