Default Side view mirror cover removal

Had my side view mirrors scratched and was going to remove them on my own to have them repainted. Is there anyway to remove them without taking off the entire mirror assembly? If I could pop out the mirror glass itself, I could reach the clips to remove the mirror cover.

I was thinking of trying to wedge the cover out, but I don't want to break any clips.

This is just for the painted cover, not the mirror arm/housing.

Thanks for any help.

I'd say, instead of removing them, buy carbon fiber side-mirror covers...

Adds a nice touch..

To remove the cover you need to pry the glass off from the bottom, then unplug the two wires and look inside you will see the release tabs that's about it.

I needed to take my mirror covers off today and came across this thread. for anyone else doing this - I wanted to note that prying the glass off is not necessary. Just angle the glass it towards the bottom so you can stick a flathead between the upper part and the mirror and push on the release tabs to pop the cover off.
Dallaz and coolvans1988 like this.

thanks scorch, looking to do the same with mine and just get them painted black, because the wrap on side mirrors starts to peel easily.
