I've painted calipers in the past with my previous cars. You don't have to take the calipers off, but the results will be better with them off to prevent overspray. They looked fine when you first paint them, but after a while the paint usually cracks and chips pretty bad, no matter how well you prep the area. The best option would be powdercoating if you want to do it right.

How did the wheels come out OP?

You could spray paint a banana, but I'm not sure why you'd want to. This kind of DIY stuff is so ghetto.
